Technology I can’t live without. I never really thought about how much technology has changed my life. Without it, I never would have met a group of amazing people to talk about my favorite TV show. A lot of these people have also crossed over from just being friends to talk about TV with to friends who are there for me, when times are rough. These same friends have also afforded me the opportunity to travel to different parts of the world to meet up at concerts, pantos, or conventions.
For starters I would say I cannot live without the computer and internet. For me they go hand in hand. Over the years, the internet started out as something that was kind of new, not really used, and now, it’s everywhere doing everything we could ever imagine and then some. I use the internet to keep in touch with friends, research, plan trips, and play games. The internet has become a part of my daily routine. I wake up, I get ready for the day, then I check my email, then I go on my favorite social networking sites, lastly I check out LiveJournal, and other blogging sites I belong to.
Which leads me into my next technology I cannot live without: Social Media? Places like Twitter and Facebook, have become a daily addition to my online routine. I started out on Facebook before it was the “it” thing to do. (Remember when it was just for College students?) Facebook for me has adapted from being the place to keep in touch with my college friends to a way to keep in touch with family who don’t happen to be in the immediate area. People may not like Facebook for whatever reason, I’m not here to begrudge that, and just because I use it I shouldn’t be mocked either.
OK, there may also be another reason why I’m on Facebook. It’s called Bejeweled Blitz and also now Zuma Blitz. I started playing Bejeweled Blitz when it first came out, and have been hooked ever since. I even got my mom playing the game, and now every week we compete against each other to see who can have the most points for the week.
Twitter, I started using in January of 2008 because of a musician I followed mentioned it. I decided to check it out; I thought it was interesting so I’ve stuck around. Again, Twitter allows me to keep in contact with a larger group of friends at once, and with the influx of celebrities using Twitter, I like to see what they tweet about. I’ve found a lot of new music and books from Twitter. I’m glad it has expanded my musical and book tastes.
The last bit of technology I could not live without is my cell/mobile phone. Currently I have a smart-phone, but before that, it didn’t matter, as long as I could text and call that’s all that mattered. Still only now I use my smart-phone to double check directions and I know I don’t use it to it’s fullest capacity, but still a phone is something I like to have as a just in case something happens.
I know people complain that we use too much technology, but with everything if it’s used in moderation, it’s a good thing. Times change, and people should be adapting along with the times.
