There is no better decoration during family holiday celebrations than filling a room with handmade crafts for guests to enjoy. There are many simple activities you can make by yourself or get the entire family involved. To make some of these crafts set aside a day in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, most listed here should take only an hour or two to complete.
Let guests know where they will be sitting during Thanksgiving dinner with hand made leaf nameplates. You can make these one of two ways. One way is to hand draw and cut out leaves from fall colored construction paper. The other way is to buy pre-cut leaves, which are available at most crafts stores.
On the leaves write out your guests names. By opening up a paperclip you will be able to make a stand you can tape to the back of the leaf. Place leaves around your dining room table alternating colors and having fun with the seating arrangements.
Pumpkin Print Place mats
To make this craft you will need a small pumpkin (no larger than a sheet of construction paper), paper and craft paint. With a large knife, carefully cut the pumpkin in half. Paint the inside of the pumpkin with craft paint and then stamp it down on the construction paper. This will make an imprint of the pumpkin on the paper.
Decorate the pumpkin as desired with markers, glitter or stickers. Repeat until you have enough place mats for the number of guests visiting for Thanksgiving dinner. To better preserve the place mats have them laminated and then they can be used year after year.
Thanksgiving Feast Menu
Let guests know what you will be serving for Thanksgiving dinner by creating your very own dinner menu. To make take construction paper and list appetizer, main course, dessert and drinks with enough space between to list menu items.
Cut pictures of your menu items from a magazine or other printout, or draw the items. Repeat this for each item on your Thanksgiving Day menu and make a handful of menus to give guests as they arrive. This is a cute and fun way to share what will be on the menu throughout the evening.
