The 24th Annual 2010 American SandSculpting Championship & Beach Festival begins today on Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Sixteen Top Master Sculptors from around the world are expected to compete, along with some very talented amateurs for a show sure to please the thousands of spectators expected to watch the sand sculptures take shape. The American SandSculpting Championship & Beach Festival is free and open to all.
There are also free bus and trolley services for transportation to and from the beach, and for out of town visitors, there are official sponsors such as GullWing Beach Resort, Holiday Inn, and Point Estero Beach Resort, whose hotels front the beach so you won’t miss a thing.
The list of Master Sand Sculptors competing at the American SandSculpting Championship & Beach Festival in 2010 is truly impressive, featuring such stars as Dan Belcher, a 13 time World Champion; Karen Fralich, a 3 time World Champion (among oodles of other championship awards); and Latvian Sandis Kondrats, who has achieved a Masters Degree in Sculpture and sculpts in ice as well as sand; and many, many more. You will also meet the Florida State Champs Libby Bennett, John Corning, Laura Hines and Karl Herpel.
Besides the emerging sand masterpieces themselves, there is a SandVendor Village featuring a Food Court and a varied group of vendors and exhibitors. Also, for anyone who wants an up close and personal view of the master sand sculptors at work, there is a VIP pass available that gets you behind the ropes and in close contact with the sand sculpting masters and their sand sculptures as they are formed. These can be picked up at the Fort Myers Beach Chamber tent for $5 Individual tickets, or $10 for a Family. Children and Senior Citizens can get in for just $3 each, and if you plan to be at the beach all weekend, you can buy a Friday to Sunday pass for just $20.00.
