One of my favorite herbs to use for garnishing food and adding flavor is chives, but I also like them because of there amazing health benefits. Chives can help prevent illnesses, cancers and other common health issues which is why they are worth adding to our meals.
The reason chives are so healthy is because they contain a natural source of sulfur which is needed to help keep the body healthy. Sulfur also helps prevent certain times of cancers and health issues by fighting off the free radical cells that cause them in the first place. Chives also contain allicin which is a chemical that helps improve the circulatory system and helps prevent and fight off infections in the body. Chives also contain vitamins such as C and A as well as several minerals such as minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, and folic acid. All these vitamins and minerals are needed to help support the body’s immune system and keep it health and strong so it can work better when it needs too.
Some of the types of cancers chives can help prevent and treat are colon, stomach, breast, lung and prostate. Chives can also help prevent certain health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease, inflammation, flues, colds, viruses and bacterial infections. Chives can even help reduce the growth of tumors by inhibiting them.
The best way to get chives into your diet so you can receive the most health benefits from them is by adding them to your meals. I personally like to cut them up with chief scissors and add them to my soups, chili and stews. Sometimes I enjoy garnishing my baked potatoes topped with sour cream to add a nice fresh herbal onion flavor. They can even be added to salads instead of onions to help give a nice light onion flavor. It really doesn’t matter how you get them into your diet just as long as you do.
