If you have more than one child it can be very difficult to organize all of your child’s work. Often what end up happening are those workbooks, pencils and the other supplies end up getting lost. If you have chosen to use the workbox system, color coding really seems to be the best option. Below you will find several benefits to using the color coded workbox system.
Everything should match
The boxes their stickers, and even their school supplies should match. By doing this even if things are left out you will have no problem matching them up. It will also teach them responsibility. They will have no problem being responsible for their items, and making sure that everything is put away. One of the nice things about the workbox system is that it really does teach children how to be responsible for their own work. I have found that before you buy all of the color coding supplies it is often a good idea to have your child let you know which colors they would like.
Kids should learn organization too
Some parents may feel that their kids are too young to learn how to be well organized. The truth is that you are never too young to start. Besides the earlier that you teach them, the easier it will be for them as they get older. They will learn to be responsible for their own education. Unfortunately when kids are in public school they do not have any control over their schedule until they reach the high school level. By allowing your child to have control when they are younger, they will be better prepared for the responsibility later on.
Develop the love of learning
One thing that you may notice over time is that your child will begin to look forward to getting their school work each day. Especially if you take the time, and mix it up a bit. For example instead of putting the same items in box number one, why not switch it up a bit, and start off each day different. All you have to do is mix the bins up a bit. Throw in a few fun items, and snacks in between the boxes, and you will really keep them excited. Even for the subjects that they may not have enjoyed at first, they may start to enjoy when they have more control over their day. One thing that I found my kids need to see is an end to their day. They want to be sure that nothing will suddenly pop up when they think their day is done. For our family it has gotten rid of the daily school work schedules, and made the homeschooling days a lot more enjoyable for everyone.
