Vitamins are great, and our body calls for them naturally. But taking one multivitamin a day might not cut it. One of the best things you can add to your daily routine, is fish oil.
Fish oil is basically one of nature’s miracles to you. What specifically does fish oil help with? Everything! Everything from your eyes, to your nails, to your hair, skin, bones, and well, I could go on and on. But fish oil really is great, and can even be considered a form of “the fountain of youth,” what with all its ways of preventing aging factors, including arthritis and wrinkling skin.
This oil is found from the tissue in fish like salmon, mackerel, and many others. It is made out of mainly omega-3 fatty acids, or DHA and EPA (decosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid). From this product, we see a range of benefits, from better eye site, to helping heart problems. There was even once when a man, who had gone into a comma, and was helped out with fish oil.
The story revolves around Randal McCloy, who had been taken to the intensive-care unit in West Virginia University Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was just inches from death, barely breathing. As a coal miner, McCloy had become a victim of being buried alive, spending forty-one hours of his life two and half miles beneath the ground, just barely clinging to life. Everyone else who had been with him at the time, had passed away.
At this time, McCloy was suffering from collapsed lungs while his heart struggled to beat. He was unconscious, with his kidneys and liver all but shut down. There wasn’t much hope for him. Dr Julian Bailes, McCloy’s neurosurgeon, had explained, “It’s very difficult to come back from a brain injury. There’s no drug that can help that.” Bailes had predicted that if McCloy ever woke up again, he would indeed suffer the losses of certain motor skills due to brain damages.
At the hospital, Bailes decided to give his patient 15,000 milligrams of pure fish oil. After weeks of being injected with fish oil, McCloy awoke, rather unexpectedly. McCloy shocked all of the doctors, even those who were already predicting any positive results; his health had indeed, skyrocketed past what they had ever thought possible. Quickly, he learned the procedures of walking and talking, and even seeing. Dr Bailes claimed, “The omega-3 helped rebuild the damaged gray and white matter of his brain. I would say he should be on it for a lifetime. But then, I think everybody should.”
This is merely one story out of many that provides us with evidence that using fish oil is absolutely great for us. I remember once about how my grandmother’s friend was telling us that back in “the good ol’ days” her mother used to feed her a spoonful of fish oil every day. Though the taste must have been awful (thankfully, today we have easy to swallow fish oil pills with no taste), she lived a long time. One day she ended up going to the doctor in her 70’s. The doctor had been amazed at how dense her bones were, and that they were the densest bones he had seen in a woman her age.
The funny thing is, it’s not just people who benefit from fish oil. It turns out our furry friends can as well. Both cats and dogs can have doses of this omega-3 to help them live longer. The Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine had discovered lower EPA and DHA in dogs who had suffered from heart failure verses those who had been a diet that included omega fatty acids. Today, it is highly recommended to give dogs and cats fish oil.
This product is accessible to almost anyone, seeing as the pills are sold in stores pretty much everywhere. Fish oil is an amazing thing, and truly one of nature’s gifts.
