Whether you are a believer in Jesus Christ or not, everyone worries about something at some time or another in their life. We live in an imperfect world where we deal with stress and unpleasant situations all the time. So, it almost seems like worrying has to be a part of our life, but it does not have to be.
If I had to define the word worry, I would say that it is useless energy that torments us and solves nothing. When someone worries, their mind is being tormented by thoughts and fears that are not of God. In the Bible, Jesus invites us to bring all of our worries to Him in prayer. I Peter 5:7 tells us to Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (New International Version) I recently heard a Pastor preach on this subject and he said that if we are constantly worrying, we are not living life to the fullest the way God intended for us to live. Instead of worrying so much about something, we need to pray more. We would be better off using our energy by praying which solves things. Worrying does not accomplish anything but just makes you sick.
Just recently, I heard of two accidents on the highway in which people were killed because of a tire blow out. I have always been concerned about this happening so this bothered me very much when I heard it and thoughts of worry starting flashing across my mind. Thoughts entered my mind like what if this happens to me or someone in my family. For a day or two these thoughts tormented me. I finally had to decide if I was going to keep on letting these thoughts bother me, or just give my worries over to God.
If you think of it, there is so much to worry about in this day and age, especially in this poor economy in which we live. I am a teacher and there is a very good chance that my school will be closing next year. I have a choice whether to start worrying about it from now, or to just trust God about it. If my school does close, then I know that God has another job lined up for me.
I was in a similar situation a few years ago. The school that I was teaching at closed down after four years that I was there. I really hate the interview process, but that is something that you cannot avoid when you are looking for a job. I remember being discouraged at times because I received a number of rejection letters. I knew that God had a place for me, but when I did not see it happening right away, it got to me after a while. The summer was going by pretty quickly and I had not received any offers yet. Finally, on August 23rd of that year, I got a call from a school that I had sent my resume to. The interview was a piece of cake and I was offered the job right on the spot. I knew that God had opened this door for me.
Whatever it is that you are worried about, trust God with your problem, He is more than able to handle anything that comes your way.
