Italy is world renowned for many things and one of those is the foods. The following are some typical foods that are best eaten in their region of origin or a particular city than just anywhere in the country. The following are some foods or dishes that taste better in their cities or region:
Pizza: the best pizza is found in Naples, there is no question about it, almost in every street corner there is a pizzeria. Naples pizza is thin but the borders are not and usually the more typical ones have a marinara topping (just sauce no cheese) or Buffalo mozzarella and fresh small tomatoes known as paccheri.
Artichokes: this vegetable is known as very popular in Rome and there are two famous recipes one is called “carciofi alla Romana” (artichokes Roman style) which include just lemon, parsley, olive oil, garlic and mint and they are simple but very flavorful.
Polenta: in the north Milan and the Valtellina area, where you should eat the polenta taragna which is made from buckwheat which makes it a very yellow color and it is usually eaten with meats such as sausages and pork; but the normal flour polenta is also good here too.
Tartufo: the truffle, or tartufo, is best in the city of Torino (Turin), this has a strong taste and one can or cannot like it but it is great as a pasta sauce, but you can add a little bit to eggs and cheese too. There are two types of truffle, the white one which is usually served raw or drizzled on salads, and the black truffle which has a more delicate taste, the truffle is part of the mushroom family but it is found deep in the ground instead more like a root.
Steak: the best steaks you will find in Florence, where they know how to cook it just right, and ask for the bistecca Fiorentina, which is similar to a very tender porterhouse steak and it is the cut near the bone (short loin) and it is cooked on coal, and it melts in your mouth.
Eggplant Parmesan: This dish is best in the southern Italy from Naples down, however it is very popular and delicious in Sicily. This is also a simple dish; the eggplants are sliced and fried then tomato sauce and mozzarella and parmesan cheese and then baked.
