If you decide to tour Columbus, Georgia this fall consider staying at the Value Place hotel on Victory Drive. It is by far the best hotel in the area for the money. Value Place offers one and two bed studio apartment type rooms with full kitchens, cable television, high speed internet, a guest laundry room and the best security of any hotel regardless of price.
My wife and I were robbed in 2008 while staying at a hotel in Alabama, so security is the first thing that we consider when shopping for a hotel. Value Place is locked down like a fortress! Their buildings have four entrances into and out of the main corridors and every one of them are protected by electronic locks and 24 hour video surveillance. The guest rooms offer the same electronic locks, as well as self closing doors, deadbolts and secondary latch hooks. The laundry room offers the same security features and has a landline telephone. So if something were to happen while you are in there all you have to do is engage the deadbolt, throw the secondary latch and call for help from inside. And don’t worry about your neighbors –Value Place runs every guest against the Family Watchdog/Sex Offender database and all employees must pass a rigorous criminal background investigation before they work for the hotel.
The place is immaculate! They actually shampoo the carpets, clean the shower curtains and wash the bedspreads every time someone checks out of a room. Housekeeping comes by every two weeks to give you fresh towels and bedding and to clean your room. The parking lots are always clear of trash, the floors are always shiny and the hallways smell delicious.
Value Place is an extended stay hotel which means it’s considered short-term residential housing, so dishes and cook wear are not provided. They give you your first roll of toilet paper, but the rest is up to you.
Each guest room has a full kitchen which includes a full-sized refrigerator and freezer, stove, sink, microwave and cupboards. If you intend on a longer stay consider purchasing the Dish Pack from the Front Desk. It will give you dishes, silverware and a couple of pans to cook for two. They also sell a 10 cup coffee pot which is yours to keep (both for around $30). Cable television is standard, but the internet will cost you $10 a week extra. And their internet connection is wired, another great security feature. You don’t have to worry about your personal data being transmitted all over the hotel site.
There is none better. The rooms start at about $180.00 a week (about $45.00 a night) and for what you get that is an amazing price. The more expensive hotels in the area don’t offer the same security measures and the less expensive ones don’t match up to Value Place’s standards. Just a heads up though, there is a $100.00 security deposit (refundable upon checkout) and a 24 hour checkout notice.
