Water dispensers are a convenient way to have hot or cold water available at a moments notice. Whether at the office or in your home, they are a popular tool and can save you money from buying individually bottled waters. However, changing the three or five gallon water jug can be a mess task especially if the bottles don’t come equipped with a pop out cap.
The most efficient way to replace the water jug without spilling water all down the wall and all over the floor depends on your actual water dispenser.
If your water dispenser has a large opening and is equipped with a reservoir, you can simply remove the water jugs cap and poor the water into the reservoir as you put it on.
However, if your dispenser does not have an open reservoir replacing the jug without spilling is more of a challenge. Most dispensers have a peg the bottle sits over. If your jug has a solid plastic cap, the easiest way to put it on the dispenser without spilling is to use a knife to cut a “X” pattern in the cap.
Removing the cap entirely will likely result in you spilling water as your turn it onto the dispenser, but cutting the “X” in the cap allows the bottle to fit over the water peg in the water dispenser without the water gushing out as you turn the bottle vertically.
With the old bottle removed, place the new bottle on a counter or table and use a knife to cut slice an opening in the bottle top. Hold the bottle so the cap is pointing up and in one fluid motion turn the bottle onto the dispenser with the peg sliding into the slice of the bottle cap.
