So far season 2 of “Glee” has been filled with many stellar musical performances. From the first episode “Audition” to the most recent episode “Rocky Horror Glee Show” the members of New Directions have outperformed themselves all year for glee club in both solo performances and duets.
“Telephone” from the “Audition” Episode
The “Telephone” duet performed by Rachel and Charice in the girl’s room during the season opener on “Glee” was a killer meshing of two powerful voices on a Lady Gaga number that didn’t make it into last season’s Gaga episode, “Theatricality.”
“I’m a Slave For You” from the “Brittany/Britney” Episode
Brittany S. Pierce performed the Britney Spears song “Slave for You” on the “Brittany/Britney” episode of “Glee” while evoking Britney Spears’ musical moments in time ranging from the videos “Oops, I Did It Again” and “Toxic” to her iconic “Slav e for You” VMA performance.
“I Wanna Hold Your Hand” from the “Grilled Cheesus” Episode
Kurt performed “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” as a partial remembrance of the passing of his mother as the song was played at her funeral. However, the touching part of the performance was a beautiful montage of Kurt and his father in past years. The highlight of the montage was an etiquette lesson and tea party hosted by Kurt. Chris Kolfer’s voice rendered his rendition of this Beatles’ classic tune a true masterpiece.
“Losing My Religion” from the “Grilled Cheesus” Episode
Finn performed “Losing My Religion” during the “Grilled Cheesus” episode, and it was one of his more well-suited numbers in the show thus far. A cover of one of R.E.M.’s most directly associated songs is no small feat to pull off, but Cory Monteith did it.
“Happy Days Are Here Again” from the “Duets” Episode
The most powerful duet in the “Duets” episode of “Glee” featured the dynamic voices of Kurt and Rachel blending in a song to say good-bye to the blues both feel from time to time. Rachel always manages to pull out a smashing duet while Kurt is always a dynamic voice.
“Sweet Transvestite” from “The Rocky Horror Glee Show” Episode
Mercedes belted out “Sweet Transvestite” like a madwoman during this “Glee” episode making the show worth the price of admission alone in an episode filled with great performances all around.
With only five episodes so far in the second season of “Glee,” many more spine-tingling high notes are sure to be hit in the coming months.
