If you’re an NFL fan living or travelling abroad, it can be difficult to keep up with your favorite sport. It’s especially hard to find a good game atmosphere rather than just looking up the results on the internet. Don’t give up hope though. If you are in England during NFL season, there’s no reason why you can’t have a great time watching games (sometimes even live!) and getting into the spirit of football season.
Here’s a guide to the best places to watch NFL games in London.
Most people know London’s enormous Wembley Stadium in association with football, not American football. This is one of the most expensive and largest sports stadiums anywhere in the world. It is usually known for soccer games as this is where the English team plays and many soccer matches are held here. However, Wembley stadium also has an association with American Football.
Most people don’t know this, but there are a few NFL games held outside of the U.S. each year. Wembley hosts a normal season game each autumn. This year the San Francisco 49ers are playing the Denver Broncos right here in London. To find out about tickets for the game on the 31st of October, click here.
This is the single most exciting piece of information that I can give NFL fans in London. You can not only watch broadcasts of games, but go to a live game as well!
The Sports Cafe
In London, The Sports Cafe is somewhat legendary among sports fans. It is a surprisingly large venue, and although they host many events, they’re best known for playing live sports. There’s a sense of community when you go to follow certain sports or teams, and watching games here will really help you to get into the football season feeling. The good news for American Football fans is that they do show NFL games. If you want to go to the bar and watch a game with friends, this is a really good London venue for it. They’re really reliable about showing NFL games, but feel free to contact them to find out exact times and information. You can also contact them to request that certain games be shown; just make sure to ask as far in advance as possible.
Other Bars and Pubs
Many of the bars and pubs in the London area get extra sports channels on TV, including channels covering American sports events. Many of them will not show them as standard, however most are willing to play a game if they get it and someone asks nicely. Yes, if it interferes with something that a lot of other people want to watch, then you’re probably out of luck. If, though, you ask them in advance, then most places will be willing to put on the game for you as long as it’s not too weird of a time with the time change. This method works especially well if you often go to the same place and bring friends with you. If showing NFL games is good for business, then they’ll be happy to do it. It never hurts to ask. Do your homework though and ask about specific teams or games that you’re especially interested in.
If you’re willing to pay for Sky or other similar packages, you can choose additional sports channels that will show NFL games. OK, watching a game at home isn’t necessarily as exciting as going out. However, if you watch a game at home you can either just have a relaxing evening on your own, or you can make a party out of it and invite friends over to watch the game. You might be surprised how little it could cost to subscribe to extra sports channels in order to get NFL games.
