She was born in Washington D.C. on November 24, 1978. She began modeling at the age of nine and began acting in 1992. During the early stages of her acting career, Katherine continued attending public high school.

Katherine Heigl spends par of her time supporting causes close to her heart. She promotes organ donation under the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation. The organization was founded to honor Heigl’s brother who died in 1986 in a car accident. Katherine Heigl also founded Hounds of Hope under the foundation. Hounds for Hope rescues large dogs from shelters that have high kill rates. The dogs are rehabilitated to make them suitable for fur-ever homes. Katherine Heigl’s shares her home with six dogs.
