These days, Android is one of the hottest operating systems around for mobile devices. Android phones have increased dramatically in popularity over the past few years, and that popularity will likely only continue to increase with each product cycle. Android powered phones offer some great apps and great advantages to traditional wireless phones, and can often be akin to carrying around a miniature PC in your pocket. Deciding which Android phone is the best can be a difficult task, but here is a quick look at five of the best:
#5 HTC Aria
The HTC Aria is one of the prettiest phones around; however, the 3.2″ screen is the smallest of any phone on this list. Still powered by the Android 2.1 operating system the Aria allows the user access to the vast library of Android apps, and delivers some impressive speeds along with a great 5-mega-pixel camera. The main drawbacks with the Aria are the small screen and the undersized camera when compared to some of the higher resolution phones on the market. Still, an impressive phone with great visuals, but not necessarily the best Android phone on the market.
#4 The HTC Droid Incredible
The HTC Droid Incredible, powered by Android 2.2, is something of a monster in the world of smart phones. The 3.7″ screen is neither overly big nor undersized, and the 8 mega pixel camera puts it in a tie for the highest resolution of any phone on this list. The Incredible is pretty much what any savvy phone buyer would expect: fast and powerful, but it also feels great in your hands. The main drawback with the Incredible is the optical joystick is sometimes a little clunky when it comes to navigation of menus and web pages.
#3 The HTC Evo 4G
The HTC Evo 4G, powered by Android 2.1 is a top-notch piece of technology that much is certain. The 4.3″ screen and 8 mega pixel camera put it in a tie for the largest screen and best resolution camera on this list, but the real treat with the Evo is access to the higher speeds of data transfer available on a 4G network. However, 4G-network access is spotty for many users and users end up on a 3G speed anyway. So despite the ultra cool HDMI out port and bright HD screen, the HTC Evo 4G is worthy to be on this list, but not at the top.
#2 Motorola Droid X
The Droid X is considered by many to be a perfect piece of technology, and it is a well-built machine. The 4.3″ screen is bright and easy to see delivering impressive visuals that are easy to see. Powered by the ultra fast Android 2.1 operating system, the Droid X can surf the web and fire off emails just as fast it tosses out text messages and downloads video. The Droid X is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and design as it feels great to handle and never seems bulky, but it does not rank at the top of this list.
#1 Motorola Droid 2
The Droid 2 from Motorola makes it to the top of the available Android powered phones list just by nature of having one thing that all the others do not: a slide out keyboard. The screen may be a touch smaller than the Droid X and Evo coming in at 3.7″, and the five-mega pixel camera is not top of the line, but as efficient as they come. The Droid 2 is powered by Android 2.2, which grants it impressive speeds for surfing and apps. Compact and comfortable to use, the Droid 2’s slide out keyboard feels great to the touch and allows for great data input speed with the feel of being effortless. The screen offers great looking visuals and the sound is pretty much top of the line. Plus, the Droid 2 is offered with the Star Wars character R2D2 emblazed upon the phone, which reason enough for fans to rank this one at the top.
Oh, by the way, all of these still make phone calls as well.
