O yes, good Lord, look down on me;
for I cannot look up to Thee.
My shame and sin admittedly,
reveals itself quite vividly.
O yes, good Lord, I come to Thee;
without a book or words to see,
my thoughts have found serenity,
my prayer is to the trinity.
O yes, good Lord, my life is vain;
until my eyes see not a stain,
as Thou did say and did ordain,
that men not follow the path of Cain.
O yes, good Lord, my time is near;
I see Thee now, Thy face is clear,
as once before you did appear,
with love and word for men to hear.
O yes, good Lord, my head is bowed;
I have found the joy Thou hast endowed,
I’ve left behind the common crowd,
my sinful ways sometimes allowed.
O yes, good Lord, I’ve spilled much wine;
I’ve taken much that wasn’t mine,
forgive me Lord, that I have sought,
the lowly lusts that blindness brought.
