“The Good Guys” Season 1 Episode 10 “Vacation” was the first new episode since the summer and had Dan doing his usual dumb but macho thing by pursuing a purse snatcher in a commandeered car while blinded by pepper spray.
Spoilers surely follow.
Several thousand dollars of destruction later, the perp is apprehended (by Jack) and both Dan and Jack draw a suspension, Dan because of his stunt, Jack because he did not kill Dan to stop him. Lt. Ruiz can certainly not be understanding at times.
Being on suspension does not stop Dan Stark and Jack Bailey from getting involved in a crime. There are two things going down that will shortly intersect.
First, two gentlemen from Georgia, one from the Republic of Georgia, the other from the state of Georgia, are negotiating with a third gentleman to spring the brother, by the name of Sasha, of the first gentleman from jail. This can be done, but it will cost a lot of money since Sasha, who seems to be nine feet tall, nine hundred pounds of muscle and fury, and not too bright killed an FBI agent and took the ear of another.
It turns out, by the way, that the third gentleman is quite capable of springing anyone he chooses from prison. He is the warden.
Meanwhile, one of Stark’s snitches, the owner of a pawn shop, is in a little trouble with a loan shark. Since the pawn shop owner has tried to go straight and stop stealing to fill his inventory, he has had trouble with finances, since now he actually has to pay for stuff. Unwisely he borrowed fifty thousand dollars from a loan shark who now would like his testicles as collateral.
No problem. Stark borrows the fifty thousand from Narcotics. The plan is for the pawn shop owner to give the loan shark the fifty thousand, Stark to follow the loan shark a ways, then arrest him, recover the money, and return it to Narcotics with no one the wiser.
The problem arises that before Stark can accomplish Step Three, the loan shark loans the money to the two gentlemen from Georgia to spring Sasha. The plan is for Sasha to steal enough money to pay back the loan shark in a hurry.
Bailey, in the meantime, is on the point of getting back in the good graces of Liz (as well as her knickers) because she had a fight with her current boy friend. But having to deal with Stark’s latest stunt sort of short circuits this scenario.
Stark and Bailey manage to apprehend the two gentlemen from Georgia, as well as Sasha (with great difficulty.) Also, fortunately for them, the Narcotics money was marked so that when the warden tried to deposit it, he was caught and all of his evil graft and corruption were laid bare. Lt. Ruiz decided that it was best that Bailey and Stark were heroes instead of reprobates, so they get their badges and guns back, and the matter is never spoken of again.
