I have been a fair lover since I was in my teens. I love the smells of the cotton candy, sights of the rides lit in the night sky and the feel of the crisp fall like weather in the evenings. I loved the county fair so much that I started taking my son when he was about 6 month old. My husband won so many stuffed animals at the fair that my son’s room with stuffed with more stuffed animals than furniture.
I have lived in Atlanta, Georgia since 2001 and have never been to a County Fair in Georgia until recently. This week the Gwinnett County Fair had special pricing for anyone who brought a coke product to the main gate. The price was $15.00 for every ride in the fair which was a great deal because the tickets are a $1.00 a piece and the rides typically take between 2-6 tickets to ride.
When I drove up to the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, I was pleasantly surprised that it was easy to locate and the traffic was great on the weekday. I can’t promise you’ll have the same result on the weekend. As a matter of fact this is the last weekend for the Gwinnett County Fair, so the last day to enjoy it is this Sunday, September 26, 2010. They will most likely have a different pricing promotion for the weekend, but I am sure it will be a great discount compared to buying individual tickets.
If you’re not a big ride person, than there are so many other things to enjoy at the Gwinnett County Fair. They have a petting zoo along with other animal attractions. The Gwinnett County Fair is packed with lots of games that include water guns, darts, basketball and even duck races. The prices for playing most of the games are $2.00 to $5.00 and the prizes are really substantial and include large bears, colorful dogs and live gold fish just to name a few.
The Gwinnett County Fair has other attractions that include a 2 foot lady and half woman, half snake. Of course you have to remember that some things at the fair are just entertainment and have no basis in reality. Most of the side attractions cost $1.00 to enjoy.
My favorite thing about the Gwinnett County Fair was definitely the food. They had wonderful food! There was good ole southern BBQ that simply melted in your mouth. I choose the chicken BBA sandwich without the slaw and it was so tender and flavorful and worth the $5.00. Next up it was all about the funnel cakes. I simply love the taste of that deep fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar and other toppings such as strawberry, cherry, chocolate, Oreos or even ice cream. Mmm mmm good! The funnel cakes were $6.00 to $10.00 depending on what kind of topping you wanted. I finished the night off with cotton-candy for $4.00 and a $3.00 candy apple that I devoured once I got home.
Bottom-line: Great Family Fun, Good prices with discounts and Excellent Fair food for $3.00 to $10.00.
