A stranger was brought into our midst. She identified herself as a traveler from the land beyond the border of the big – eyed soul.
We learned she had been discovered walking alone and holding something very close. She held it as if her very life was at stake should something happen to it. When the sentinels demanded to inspect it, she refused at the threat of her own life. She had bowed before them and asked to speak to the leader of our people.
She had no name. She knew herself only as the keeper of what seemed to be a beautiful golden box. Jewels in laid the box made of gold. Diamonds, pearls, rubies and emeralds formed its lines meeting at its corners.
After determining she was not a threat to our safety, servants prepared a place for the keeper to rest. She looked at me as if she knew me.
I asked Mother if she might stay with me. She looked at Father. They looked at each other. They looked at the Keeper. She nodded her approval.
I was curious about this mysterious one. Was she like the Supeorci?
In my new chamber of the great tent, servants stood near to care for me.
They stood quietly by as we entered waiting only for requests to serve.
They prepared a bath for the Keeper and for me. There we talked. When we were finished, we were brought fresh linen clothes, fruit, and warm drink.
I was tired from the day’s travel but I couldn’t sleep. I wanted to know the Keeper and whether she had information for me, and our people, she hadn’t spoken openly to Mother and Father.
In my chamber, she sat down quietly very near to me. She looked into my eyes with her own that seemed to see through me.
As she touched me on my left cheek, I faintly remember hearing her from within my mind that I should rest and know. Rest and know. The next thing I knew was that it was morning.
The Keeper was sitting in the same position I remember her in before I went to sleep. When the chamber maiden greeted me of the new morning, she whispered in my ear that the Keeper had not slept but watched over me all of the night.
When I asked, “Why?”
She told me, “I do not know.”
The Keeper then greeted me with a glowing face and then a bow.
“Good Morning Kijarra, she said. I hope you enjoyed sweet sleep.”
“How do you know my name, I asked? No one knows my new name but me and the Supeorci who accompanied my return.”
“Then, there are three of us. What did you see when you looked inside the golden box,” she asked?
“But I have not touched your beautiful box,” I said.
“I know,” she said. It remains safe here with me. Remember your dream.”
“Yes. Yessss. I did dream a dream,” I said. “I was walking in the early evening’s moonlight in the garden. I was just walking and listening to my thoughts when I saw a woman walking into the path of shadows.
I kept hearing her call my name but I could no longer see her. When I looked to see where the voice calling me was coming from, all I could see was the woman’s hand reaching from the shadows beckoning me come.
I lifted up my hand and she took it and led me into the shadows. I looked everywhere around me. I was seeing in the complete darkness.
I wasn’t seeing with my eyes but I was seeing. I saw people I did not recognize in lands I do not know.
They were all very friendly. The offered me food, drink, and gifts. I could not carry it all. I had no servants.
I was alone but not alone. I held the woman’s hand. I was not afraid but I didn’t want to let her hand go.
I kept hearing my name. Kijarra. Kijarra.”
I answered, “Here I am. Here I am.”
“Open the golden box Kijarra,” the voice said. “Learn the mystery of the ancient wisdom. Open the box and look inside.”
