There is a new eatery in town. The Lemon Leaf Café opened its doors at 117 South Cross Street in Chestertown, to the hungry hoards of visitors attending Chestertown’s’ Wildlife Festival in early November. Since then the charming eatery has become a favorite of the “locals” and the “must try” place to eat for visitors to the town.
Owner and head chef J.R.Alfree is well known around the county, spending much of his early years at Galena Firehouse; running to fight fires with his Dad, Jack and in the kitchen helping his Mom, Joann cook fund raising suppers.
The Lemon Leaf Café is Alfree’s dream come true. From the light airy design of the dining space to the warm home style” with a twist” menu nothing has been left to chance.
According to Alfree the goal is to serve fine, home style cooking, made with the freshest ingredients, and then add the Lemon Leaf’s special touch with sauces, mustards, spreads and dressings. The attention to detail shows through.
Crab Soup is an Eastern Shore Tradition and the Crab Soup at the Lemon Leaf is among the best on the Shore. Oyster Stew another favorite is cooked to order and not always available, but when it is :) yum!!
Check out the Malibu Salad with Craisins, glazed walnuts, crumbled blue cheese, sliced apples and pears topped with a raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing. Signature sandwiches come with a twist like the Sunday Dinner made with in house roasted turkey, stuffing and a cranberry cream cheese spread.
Dinner is served Thursday through Saturday and includes Roast Turkey, Roast Beef and another Eastern Shore favorite Chicken and Dumplings along with Crab and Oyster specials.
The Lemon Leaf Café offers great food at prices that won’t break the bank. The Lemon Leaf Café does not serve alcohol but diners may bring their own bottle of wine or beer to enjoy with their meal. Cash Only at this time.
