Have you heard about the Lemonade Diet? Some people call it the Master Cleanse Diet. This diet has been around for over 50 years according to WebMD and throughout those years has had its share of controversy, debate, and intrigue. Does it work? Can a person go (up to) 40 days without eating? What are the benefits? The drawbacks? I’m going to try and answer those questions and because its been awhile since I’ve tried it-yes, I’ve tried it before-I did some research to try to get the story straight.
The Lemonade Diet – How its Done:
The individual mixes the lemonade drink and digests this concoction for up to 40 days as a detoxification process.
The individual also drinks copious amounts of water and a cup of herbal laxative tea each night to supplement this special lemonade.
There are no other foods or supplements/vitamins needed or allowed for as long as the individual partakes in the lemonade diet.
*WebMD states: A saltwater flush can also be included.* (WebMD, 2010).
The Lemonade Diet – The Origin
The lemonade diet was originally the brainchild of Stanley Burroughs and when he first introduced this detoxification diet he included much information about how it works, an exact plan for during and after the diet, and motivational information to help the individual make the most of the lemonade detoxification program. You may read more about Mr. Burroughs and the Lemonade (Master Cleanse) Diet here.
The Lemonade Diet – Recipe (one serving):
2 tablespoons fresh-squeezed lemon juice
2 tablespoons grade-B organic maple syrup
1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper
10 ounces filtered water
Drink 8-10 glasses per day of this specially made lemonade detoxification mixture for 1-40 days and reap the benefits of a healthier, lighter (weight-wise) you.
The Lemonade Diet – 1-40 Days:
I do not personally know of anyone who has mastered this Master Cleanse for 40 days. WebMD recommends drinking the concoction for up to 10 days at the most. Actually, WebMD does not really recommend this diet for anyone and states clearly that this diet may not be healthy or effective for most people.
But I believe WebMD must know that many people have tried this diet and many more will too. The review on WebMD’s site is a good one and it should be read by anyone who wishes to give the lemonade detoxification diet a try. You may find the review here.
The Lemonade Diet – Why I’m Doing It
I have tried this diet before. Several times in fact. And always (ALWAYS) have been derailed by the 4th day. It is difficult to go more than a few days without eating. There are side effects that vary person to person but can include: headaches, nausea, crankiness (really?), and general discomfort.
So why, you ask, am I doing it (again)?
Because I do believe some of the hype surrounding the lemonade diet. I do believe the merits of cleansing one’s body every now and then. And I do believe that I can do this diet for 3 days-as I have before with good results.
And 3 days is all I’m doing on the Lemonade (Master Cleanse) Diet. I will follow the steps needed for my success and once I’ve completed the 3 days I will begin to incorporate a healthy diet into my normal daily routine.
And why, you ask, am I telling you this?
The lemonade diet is part of a larger plan for me and I believe this 3 day detoxification is necessary for my success.
That said, I am NOT endorsing, promoting, or recommending this diet to anyone. If you choose to research the diet further and subsequently decide to try the lemonade diet yourself, you do so at your own risk and without any promises or coercion from me.
Many people have done the lemonade diet. Many people have had success. Many people have failed on this lemonade diet. Many people believe this diet is dangerous. Be aware of all these things before you make any decisions you may regret; do your own research and always check with your medical professional before undertaking any sort of life-changing plan.
There you have it. The story, the recipe, and why I’m doing it.
