The Mountain Winds bring the Mellow Sound of Woodwinds to the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. Woodwind quintets have been bringing soothing music to the world for centuries, even though this is not very well known. Woodwinds are usually part of a full orchestra, you will even see them in any school band, but they have not created the same awareness when a wind ensemble plays alone.
Woodwind ensembles have been playing for aristocratic dinner parties and outdoor serenades since the 18th century when they were favored by in the court of Joseph II. The ensembles fell out of favor in the 19th century, there was a renewed interest in the 20th century and now in the 21st century the wind quintet is a standard chamber music ensemble. Woodwinds are favored for their variety of tone color and versatility. We are lucky to have the Mountain Winds quintet bringing the arts and the mellow sound of woodwinds to the Poconos Pa and surrounding areas.
A woodwind quintet consists of a group of five people playing the flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. The Mountain Winds’ members are; Donna Predmore – flute, Molly Malone – oboe, Marta Oberlin – clarinet, Jenny Galunic – horn, and Laura Goss plays the bassoon. Each member resides in the Poconos and each has a story of their own, but offer their talents to bring the arts of the Mountain Woodwinds Quintet to the Pocono Mountains of PA.
The Mountain Winds have performed as part of the Shawnee Community Concert Series, where they delighted the audience with “woodwind quintet standards”, outside at the River Sanctuary. When the Pocono Arts Council held their “Art on Main”, which was a celebration of the “Arts” held in the town of Stroudsburg, PA in May of 2010, the Mountain Winds pleased the crowd in the courthouse square with their renditions of classics music. They are frequent performers in the Poconos area where they treat audiences to their soothing music.
The professional musicians of Mountain Winds offer chamber music that will match the ambiance of any affair. They perform at private and corporate dinners, weddings, outdoor concerts, holiday parties, church services, and formal recitals.
