Christopher Columbus came over to Hispaniola, where he found gold. He was meant to be spreading the word of god, but wants gold now too. When he returns he takes slave Indians and gold to the rulers of Spain to show what he has found. Before He left, he left some of his men in North America. When he returns he finds that his men have killed and tortured Indians. He joins in on the fight saying they will “make great slaves”. their title and it stuck.
When he arrived to the New World three main native tribes were there. They were the Adena-Hopewell, the Mississippian, and the Anasazi. each were known for certain things. The Adena-Hopewell were known for their burial mounds. The Mississippian were famous for their Aztec tribe and the Anasazi were known for their pueblos and irrigation
Eventually land begins to be fought over the Spanish and the Portuguese. Because of this the Pope draws up the Treaty of Tortesillas. The treaty makes a line in the new world, dividing it. Anything East of the line will be
Portuguese and anything West of the line will be Spanish.
With the immigrants coming into the new world they brought animals, plants, and diseases. Disease is the worse, because it killed the most. Europeans benefited off this, because it made it easy for them to take over.
The reason the Spanish could take over so easy because they had advantages, such as technology, horses for speed, and them using surrounding Indians to attack bigger tribes.
