The latest episode of “The Office” finds the gang at a “Glee” party, and as usual, almost no one has a good time.
At the episode opening, the employees at Dunder Mifflin drop everything they’re doing to watch live TV footage of the police cornering the “Scranton Strangler”. Michael Scott (Steve Carell) is thrilled he was the only employee to see the strangler drive by their office. He steps outside and gathers a bit of gravel for his grandson to sell “to get yourself a nice spaceship,” he tells the camera.
Erin Hannon (Ellie Kemper) tries to have Michael come to a “Glee” party she and Gabe Lewis (Zach Woods) are hosting, which, in typical Michael fashion, he pretends to not care about. He admits he’s joking and bonds with her after admitting to being a “Gleek”.
Erin ropes most of the office into coming, getting no push back from former flame Andy Bernard (Ed Helms). Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) belittles the emotion that glee is named for. “Thirst. Now that’s a show I’d watch.”
As Michael asks around to find out who’s going, Kevin Malone (Brian Baumgartner) slips and says he has to go, calling it “the bosses party”. Michael is immediately put off at the suggestion that Gabe is the boss.
Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam Halpert (Jenna Fischer) are touring Gabe and Erin’s place at the start of the party when their baby Cece wakes up. Pam reveals Cecelia is “reverse cycling”, meaning she’s sleeping at the wrong hours, as is Pam, who’s clearly stressed.
A power play over the remote between Michael and Gabe causes Michael to storm out of the living room, claiming all the real “Glee” fans can head to the bedroom and “crank it.” Pam tries to get the bedroom to herself so she can lay down with a crying Cece, but Michael continues to throw his own tantrum. Dwight wanders in, asks, “Are you going to quiet that baby or do I have to?” He scoops up the child, who quickly quiets down.
“In the Schrute family, the youngest child always raises the others. I’ve been raising children since I was a baby.” He proclaims.
Pam is left speechless, but Dwight’s power can’t be denied. He’s soon asked to give up a chance at passion with Angela Martin (Angela Kinsey) to keep the baby sleeping. He uses that power to make Jim get him beer and pizza- and feed it to him by hand.
Andy and Ryan Howard (B. J. Novak) explore Gabe’s Japanese-themed “man cave”, where the knowledgeable Ryan rattles off the cool stuff Gabe has collected. Andy grows obviously more uncomfortable, still openly harboring feelings for Erin. Feeling perked up by a pep talk from Darryl Philbin (Craig Robinson), Andy mixes powdered sea horse into his drink, thinking it will make him cooler. Instead, he gets profoundly ill while trying to run smooth lines on Erin.
Erin asks Michael to make snacks with Gabe, but he throws another fit and shuts off the cable outside the building. He returns to an upset party, feigning outrage and surprise. But shortly after, Erin finds Michael messing with the cable again and asks him why he doesn’t like Gabe. After an awkward exchange, they end up in a mock, joking father-daughter confrontation, their friendship restored.
