My family eats a lot of pasta. When they do, they love using Parmesan cheese on top.
I prefer using fresh Parmesan cheese when I can but sometimes it doesn’t fit into my budget. When that occurs, I don’t feel bad about using dried Parmesan from Cooper.
The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese has been around since 1893. That is because it is a quality product that tastes great.
The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese traditionally comes in an 8-oz can that equals 227 grams. There are roughly 45 servings inside of each can.
A serving size of this Parmesan cheese is about 2 tsp. There are 20 calories in each serving. Of that amount, unfortunately, 15 calories come from fat.
There is a total of 1.5 grams of fat in each serving of The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese. One gram of that comes from saturated fat.
The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese contains no carbohydrate or sugar and only 5 milligrams of cholesterol. It also contains 90 milligrams of sodium.
On the flip side of the coin, The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese contains 2 grams of protein and 6% of the daily-recommended amount of calcium. It has no other nutritional value.
Ingredients include cultured pasteurized part-skim milk, Parmesan cheese and salt. It also includes enzymes and powdered cellulose.
The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese can be put into a kitchen cabinet or pantry until it is opened. After opening; however, it should be refrigerated to keep it fresh.
I love using The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese over my special recipe for cavatini. To make that dish you will need five different kinds of pasta noodles. I recommend using bow tie, pasta wheels, rigatoni, pasta shells and ziti. You can also get most of these in whole wheat if preferred.
Additional ingredient requirements include the tomato sauce of your choice, mozzarella cheese, parsley flakes and seasonings (of your choice). I use garlic salt, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper.
Cook each shell according to its individual instructions. Then set aside.
Next make your own favorite tomato sauce. When I’m in a hurry, I use a can or jar of prepared sauce like Hunt’s Traditional Spaghetti Sauce or Ragu’s Sweet Basil and Pepper Sauce.
Once your sauce is made, begin putting the dish together. You can use one big casserole dish or individual dishes for each person. I prefer the latter because it seems more personalized.
Layer the bottom of the bowl with a thin layer of sauce. Then spoon a layer of noodles on top of that. Add another layer of sauce. Next, sprinkle on the seasonings of your choice and top off with a layer mozzarella cheese.
Repeat the process to make two or three more layers. When you get to the top layer, finish it off with The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese.
Bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30-45 minutes or until the consistency is thick and the pasty noodles are soft, but not mushy. Remove from the oven and plate. Serve with a can of The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese on the side for those who want to add extra cheese.
Here is my summary review of The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese:
Taste: 5 stars. The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese is good. Need I say more?
Appearance: 5 Stars. This cheese is well grated but not too fine. I prefer it to many of the similar cheeses on the market today.
Freshness: 5 stars. The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese is dried and, as long as it remains refrigerated, will last a long time. Coopers prints a “use by” date on every can to ensure freshness is maintained.
Nutrition: 4 stars. This Parmesan cheese is moderate in fat content, contains no carbs and no sugar. It does; however, have cholesterol, which could be of concern to those watching their intake of that item. Other than milk protein and calcium content, The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese has no other nutritional value.
Green value: 5 stars. The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese is biodegradable.
Packaging: 3 stars. The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese comes in a green red, and white can with navy and white lettering. The Cooper name is emblazoned across the top of the can along with the logo. A red banner declares the can’s contents. The packaging is similar to that of Kraft Parmesan Cheese, which can be both a curse and a blessing. Some may pick up Coopers by mistake. On the other hand, others may choose Kraft by mistake.
Ease of storage: 3 stars. The can measures over 5.25″ in height and nearly 3″ in diameter. It is roughly the same size as some of Kraft Parmesan Cheese’s packaging. The can is too big to be kept on spice shelves, which are traditionally shorter and narrower than other kitchen shelves. It, therefore, is usually kept on a shelf with canned goods, which it overshadows. Because it is larger, it can’t be stacked, making it a big burdensome to store. Once inside the frig; however, the can fits easily into a refrigerator door or on the shelf.
Availability: 3 stars. The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese is sold extensively but may not be carried by every grocery store of discount department store with a food section. It is very likely more difficult to find than its competitor – – Kraft.
Price: 5 stars. The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese is around the same price point as its competitor.
Product purchase probability: 5 star. I like The Original Cooper Brand Grated Parmesan Cheese and will continue to use it.
Final rating: 4.1 stars.
