Most suburban cities have only one movie theater but now Folsom California has two. The newest theater in Folsom is the Palladio Cinema and is sure to be really tough competition for the older Century Theaters.
The Palladio Cinema is located in the new Palladio outdoor mall that is still under construction in Folsom. The Palladio Cinema is located at 240 Palladio Drive, Folsom, California. The Palladio Cinema is the only actual location that is open in the Palladio right now. The good thing about that is the parking is not a problem since there is no one else at this mall. Once stores actually open though you may have to park in the parking garage that is being built and walk a ways to get to the Palladio Cinema.
The Palladio has 16 theaters which is 2 more then the Century theaters. Many people in Folsom no longer go to the Century theater because it is old and does not have the same amenities or number of screens as other theaters. Many people would go to the theater in El Dorado Hills. For many people in Folsom the El Dorado Hills theater was just as close of a drive but offered better sound, as well as stadium seating for the same price. Now that the Palladio is built it is likely that many people will stop going to El Dorado Hills and stay in town. The Palladio is located closer to many people in town then the Century theater is.
The Palladio is much better then the Century theaters. The Palladio has 16 screens instead of two so they offer a better selection of times and even movies. The Palladio also has the state of the art sound system as well as offering better movie viewing because theaters have stadium seating.
The Palladio fares well against the El Dorado Hills theater. One difference is that El Dorado Hills offers a frequent movie goers rewards program where you can occasionally get free movies and more often get free popcorn or soda. The senior rate is also two years older at 62 at the Palladio but the gas going the extra way to El Dorado Hills makes up for the difference if you are 60 or 61. One other problem that I can see is that if the Palladio gets stores open then you will have a hard time getting a close parking space and probably have to park in the parking garage.
The odd thing is that so far the Palladio is not very busy. When I went for the first time it was on a holiday but hardly anyone was at the theater. By the time I got out of my show it was later and there were a few more people but it seemed pretty deserted compared to what I would expect at Century or Regal in El Dorado Hills. I think that people may not yet be aware that it is open since no other parts of the Palladio are open yet and you can not see it from the street.
Overall the Palladio Cinema is going to be great because people in Folsom will no longer have to go somewhere else to get a high quality movie experience.
