The Sherman theater opened in 1929 and was billed as “a paradise of architectural splendor”. Opening night began with the playing of “The Star Spangled Banner” followed by a few dedication addresses and an organist. The highlight show of the night was a live performance by none other than Laurel and Hardy.

In 1988 a group from the local “East Stroudsburg University” started a campaign to save the Sherman. In 1989 the live performance began and haven’t stopped since. Performances by Arlo Guthrie, the Spinners, Dark Star Orchestra, Railroad Earth, Charlie Daniels, Bo Bice and more have been only a few.
