Have you ever heard of the law of attraction? The law of attraction is a method you use involving the mind. What you do is train your subconscious mind to bring the things you desire to the conscious mind. Personally, I think the subconscious mind is the true mind! Whatever you believe subconsciously will always win– rather you use the law of attraction or not.
The way we think can contribute to our poverty or wealth. One thing that I’ve noticed about successful people is that they always have a sense of pride about what they’ve accomplished. They have this pride because they feel deserving. (Feeling deserving was a part of the lesson on The Poor People’s Guide to Wealth Pt.1: Self Awareness.)
I must warn you while you’re ahead, I will make constant references to God and his will for our lives. If you have something against God, you may want to turn back now!
One thing that I’ve learned about poverty is that poverty is more of a mental and spiritual state than a physical state. You may not have wealth in the physical world, but you’re also lacking wealth in the mind and spirit. A lot of poor people tend to have a negative mind. They also tend to have a weak relationship with God.
Before you begin to bring in any wealth, you have to get your mind right. Sometimes our bad past contributes to the way we view our futures. I can understand that if you’ve lost your job in the past, you may feel like you can lose the one you have now. Sometimes we let our past map out the kind of lives we will have in the future, and that’s not the way it’s supposed to be. The past should stay where it is-and that’s behind you.
From this point, I want you to surrender to God. What do I mean by this? I mean I want you to realize that the proper correction of your situation is beyond you. You are a creation of God. He has given you gifts and abilities that he wants you to use. These gifts and abilities will pull you out of your rut. But you must allow him to activate them for you. You must allow him to work through you and make you fully capable of whatever you want.
There is power in humility and confession. This is why God instructs us to be this way. Confessing takes burdens off your shoulders. When you confess something, it cleans your spirit. You can begin by praying this prayer:
“God, I give you this day. I put my life in your hands. I have run out of options. I have nothing left to give. I need your guidance. I’m living a life that is not good for me, not good for my children, or my spouse/family/friends. I want to live a better life, and I need your help. Make me wiser, make me patient, and make me strong. Make me mentally healthy. Make me willing and able to learn. And make me able to teach my children/family/friends to be productive, too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Steps 1-3 is in The Poor People’s Guide to Wealth Pt. 1. In step 4 & 5, we are going to retrain the way you think. Sometimes we automatically think negatively about things. We teach ourselves (or others have taught us) to have doubts about great opportunities. We don’t dream big enough. We always think that everything is beyond our reach. That is just not true. God gives us the capabilities to do anything. Remember the scripture: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
4. Combat your negative thoughts with positive thoughts. This is a method that I learned through meditation. One of the ways you help yourself to relax while you’re meditating is to fight your negative thoughts with more positive, peaceful thoughts. Of course, this method can be used whether you’re meditating or not. It’s something that takes a while to get used to, but it certainly helps.
a. For example, when you are having doubts about anything, take a slow deep breath, and say “I can do this. I will do this”. Keep telling yourself that every time that doubt comes to mind. After you do this on numerous occasions, you will eventually believe the more positive thoughts, and that will make all the difference in what you achieve.
If you are used to thinking negatively, you will find it hard to remember to think positively. This is why Pt. 1 is about self awareness. If you are not aware of your bad habits, then you won’t be able to break them. You have to be able to say, “Uh oh. I’m doing it again. I’m thinking negative again.” When you are able to realize when you are doing it, you will remember to stop yourself. Allowing yourself to continue to think negatively is a great way to sabotage your chances at anything.
5. Find a mantra/prayer that is comforting or encouraging. This is life we are living, which means there are going to be moments when things are hard. There will be more obstacles to come. One thing that I don’t like about those who teach about the law of attraction is that they always make it seem like it turns your life into a fairy tale. Life involves some hardships. If you aren’t having any hardships at all, then you are not living!
a. When you are having one of those difficult moments, you need to have some comforting and encouraging words to help you get through it. I read a lot of spiritual books, but my favorite spiritual book is the bible. I’ve found so much comfort and wisdom in that book, and I made my mantra the 23rd Psalm. It is amazing how I instantly feel more relaxed after saying just the first four lines. Having a mantra and remembering to use it also is a part of retraining your mind. You have to remember to calm yourself down, and tell yourself everything is going to be fine. You can’t rely upon anyone else to do it for you. You are responsible for your own life.
As the bible says, there is power in the tongue. If you speak something enough, you will believe it, and it will come true. Having that perfect mantra is a big part of your success. You will find yourself speaking it often, and you will begin to believe what you speak. Notice when God created the earth, he spoke it into existence. “Let there be light”. And then there was light, and it was good.” God spoke words, and what he spoke came to life. So always be careful of what you say. Don’t say things like, “I can’t do that” or “I’m not smart enough” or things of that nature. If you say you’re dumb, then you are. If you say you can’t, then you can’t. You will create what you speak.
