The Powder House Restaurant in Keystone, South Dakota is an excellent dinning experience with a nice view of the Black Hills. The building is made of enchanting logs that and it was used to store blasting powder giving the restaurant its name.
We sat on a table that was right next to the front window so we could see the hill that is across the street from the restaurant. A deer tried to cross the road as we dined but decided better of it. We felt comfortable and well cared for by the staff of the Powder House and our food was excellent.
I ordered the buffalo steak and it was the most delicious buffalo steak I have ever eaten. It was juicy and tender to the point where it felt like it melted in my mouth. My husband ordered the shish-ka-bobs made of elk, buffalo and venison. It is really just an appetizer but it made a great meal that satisfied my husband beyond his expectations. We had originally ordered our meals on the thought that we would share them with each other but were so pleased with our choices that we ended up eating our meals ourselves with the hope that the other person would not ask for their share. Needless to say we did not ask each other for our share but finished our excellent meals ourselves.
My mother dinned with us and found her cod dinner to be delightful as well. It is hard for her to walk. The parking lot of the Powder House was easy for her to walk compared to the parking at other restaurants is Keystone.
The wild game that is served at the Powder House is cooked to perfection. I don’t know how they do it but they are doing it right. The spices are perfect and the meat is tender and tasty. If you like wild game you will enjoy what they offer and if you want to try wild game for the first time then this restaurant is a good place to go for your first wild game dinning experience.
