It is early morning,I decide to sit outdoors & drink my coffee as I watch the world wake up. An alligator floats slowly by, wading birds feed in the shallow water near the bank. I hear a splash across the way a turtle no doubt frightened into the water. There is a slight fog on the river this morning making ghostly images out of the trees on the opposite bank. The sun will burn this away as it rises allowing a vision of the river to become clear.
The water is tea colored and deep.Slow flowing as it has done for perhaps thousands of years. At one time native people knew these waters and found their livelihood here. This river has been a source of life,a highway,a history in tea colored water. On islands in the middle people once lived, they hunted, fished, gathered and raised their families here.
I took a trip by boat down this mighty river, passing islands, & majestic homes where the wealthy play.Their large boats, and noisy water craft disturb the peace of the water. This mighty river flows on as it has always done,it cares not what we humans do. I am at peace here on the river.I sit here drinking my coffee watching the world wake up in the early morning. Only those who live on the river could understand how it pulls you,how it can move you.To enjoy this beauty one needs only to sit as I do and watch the slow moving waters as I sip my morning coffee & watch the world wake up.
