If your looking to go into scrapbooking, but don’t know what to get, then you need to get a little prepared. Walking into the craft store and looking at all their products can get a little bit overwhelming at first. There are so many different products out there to purchase and if you don’t know what you’re doing, you could end up wasting a lot of money to start out with.
A good quality paper cutter is a must when it comes to scrap booking. You should also bypass the small cheap paper cutter and go ahead and grab the 12 X 12 paper cutter. They are usually just a few more bucks then the smaller ones cost. Down the road you might want to invest in a personal cutter which is faster for your pictures, but you don’t need it to start with. Depending on how much you want to spend, you can grab a paper cutter that offers different blade styles. They have paper cutters out there that will cut straight lines along with wavy lines. If you’re looking to go cheaper to start with, then you can just grab yourself a plain trimmer that does 12 X 12 papers.
You can purchase plain paper to start with. Just grab some plain card stock for your backgrounds and then you can use colored construction paper to dress it up. You could buy some of the fancy card stock and use that to design your plain paper. Cut it in half or anything else like that making your plain paper look even better.
You need to invest in a good pair of scissors. They shouldn’t be your normal kitchen scissors that you use everyday. You need to have a pair of craft scissors. Craft scissors have pointy tips and they are not that long. They almost look like a pair of kid scissors with pointy tips on them. You need to have craft scissors incase you need to trim or cut something that is smaller in size.
Glue or Tape
I would start off with investing in a tape runner. These are the easiest and safest way to glue your pictures to the paper. If you use regular glue, it could transfer through your pictures or even ruin your pictures over time. Using a tape runner is not only safe for your pictures, but it works a lot faster. They sell ones that offer refill packs, which is something that I think is well worth the investment.
Purchasing a good craft knife is something that you also need when you start scrap booking. I would suggest getting on that has different sized heads included in with your knife. You never know what size knife you will need. If you can find one that has a case as well, then that’s good. If one with the case is out of your price range, then don’t worry about it. I just like to have cases because as you build your collection up, you will find it’s hard to keep things organized.
You can use a tote or a backpack to start off with. You don’t have to get fancy with the way you store your items. Later on, you will want to invest in something a little more convenient. I personally like the scrapbooking totes that are on wheels and have a handle. If you travel with your supplies, like going to a community scrapbooking party, then this will be your best option. They have lots of pockets and places to put your items. Another thing you will want to grab is a file folder. One that will hold 12 X 12 papers. This way you can place your papers in there and your completed pages so they don’t get bent and ruined. I would suggest getting the file folder with all your other supplies to start with, this is something that you shouldn’t wait on.
