Don’t like it when there’s too much comedy in your romantic movies? Then check out the serious chick flicks of 2011. From princess tales to sci-fi love stories, you’re sure to fall in love with these romantic movies:
Heartbeats – One of the more unique romantic movies of 2011 hits theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day (on February 11th), but this French film won’t be for everyone (and won’t be playing everywhere). The film focuses on a male and female friend who fall for the same guy, a curly-haired Adonis that they both begin to fantasize about. However, what will happen to them when the competition for the attention of the object of their affection becomes an obsession? If you enjoy art movies, you definitely should enjoy taking in the beautiful beings in this sexy and sensual fantasy film.
The Adjustment Bureau – The best romantic movies of 2011 continue to get off to an exciting and surreal start as Matt Damon and Emily Blunt star in ‘The Adjustment Bureau’, a sci-fi romance about mysterious forces keeping a politician (Damon) apart from his ballerina lover (Blunt). So can the prince ever get to his princess? Find out when this modern fairytale featuring one of the sexiest onscreen couples of 2011 hits theaters on March 4, 2011. (As an added plus, the sci-fi and action elements make this one of the upcoming romantic movies of 2011 that guys can also enjoy).
Jane Eyre – Sure we’ve seen this love story about a man with an eerie secret many, many times, but perhaps we won’t mind watching it again in one of the least original upcoming romantic movies of 2011 (it does star up-and-comer Mia Wasikowska, and perhaps this will be one of the upcoming romantic movies that will appeal to ‘Twilight’ fans when it hits theaters on March 11, 2011; Bella did like the other Brontë’s writing, after all).
Red Riding Hood – March 2011 is loaded with upcoming romantic movies. This is another being released on the 11th that will likely appeal to the ‘Twilight’ crowd, especially with Catherine Harwicke directing; a plot that involves a girl (Amanda Seyfried as a more grown-up Red Riding Hood) being torn between two lovers; and a werewolf in place of the Big Bad Wolf. The trailer is definitely pretty, portraying elements of horror and romance, and it looks decent enough to make it one of the upcoming chick flicks of 2011 that will appeal to its built-in crowd.
Beastly – And here’s another of the upcoming romantic movies of 2011 looking to win over teens with a modern take on a fairy tale. In this retelling of “Beauty and the Beast”, Vanessa Hudgens is the girl that the Beast must win over, while the cuddly, hairy Disney creature we fell in love with has been replaced by a spoiled and cruel teen made to look like a monster with a bald head, tattoos, piercings, and scars. So who punishes him for being a jerk by transforming him into this “beast”? One of the Olsen twins, of course (Mary Kate playing a goth girl whose dark arts dabbling has actually paid off). So will he find true love and regain his good looks? You can bet the girls will be hoping so, as Alex Pettyfer becomes their new obsession (but I’m just excited to see NPH in anything).
The Princess of Montpensier – And keeping in fairytale mode, here’s one of the upcoming romantic movies of 2011 that turns the fairytale ending of marriage into the beginning of one princess’ story. And don’t let the “Princess” in the title fool you; while she does fall in love, it’s not with the man that she ends up marrying (hers is an arranged one), and she has a whole slew of suitors that fall hopelessly in love with her after she’s already taken. In short, it’s one of the romantic movies here that captures the more complicated side of love, but it’s hard not to fall in love with an extravagant period piece like this one. Check it out if you have the chance on April 1, 2011.
Water for Elephants – This is one of the upcoming romantic movies of 2011 that’s not just focused on a love story, but with Robert Pattinson starring, that’s the only part of this film that many girls are going to fixate on. However, this movie is about so much more, as Pattinson portrays a veterinarian student that runs away on a circus train, only to witness the abuse of the animals that he cares for. He falls in love with the head animal trainer’s wife (Reese Witherspoon), but she and Jacob (kind of funny that this is his character’s name in the film) soon find themselves in what seems like an impossible situation. It’s an interesting (and promising) movie choice for Robert Pattinson, so, whether you’re a fan of his or not, don’t miss this one on April 15, 2011.
The Rum Diary – This is one of the upcoming romantic movies of 2011 that I’m most looking forward to, as Johnny Depp (sort of) reprises his ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’ role by portraying one of Hunter S. Thompson’s colorful characters not-so-loosely based on himself. It’s hard not to look forward to seeing Thompson’s take on a rum-fueled romance set in San Juan on the silver screen, and I can’t wait to meet all the other lost souls working with the genius journalist sometime in October 2011.
The Three Musketeers – And here’s one of the best romantic movies for couples, as there’s plenty of action, adventure, and intrigue to complement the little love story contained in this classic tale. As an added bonus, look for Milla Jovovich as a deadly double agent when this film with plenty of eye candy for ladies, older and younger alike, hits theaters on October 14, 2011.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Of course this list of the upcoming romantic movies of 2011 wouldn’t be complete without Edward and Bella’s next chapter. It’ll be one of the most anticipated upcoming romantic movies of 2011 despite the fact that just about everyone watching it will know how it ends, and this dark fairytale will continue to have fans falling in love with the saga all over again on November 18, 2011.
So from magical love stories to more realistic ones, the upcoming romantic movies of 2011 have a little love for everyone, and you might find yourself torn between the titles here as you fall in love with multiple movies.
