Summer break, Christmas and Thanksgiving mean one thing- enough time to pack your bags and go on a family vacation. There are so many movies that are centered around a family that is far from perfect, going on vacation and getting into all sorts of uncomfortable situations. Sometimes movies are very close to reality. Family vacations can be fun but there is simply too much room for embarrassing and unpleasant moments.
Somebody always gets sick, Whether that somebody gets too excited about exotic food and gets a stomach flu or steps into the ocean and gets stung by a jellyfish, things like that can ruin everybody’s mood. The worst case scenario is getting a cold and a fever and staying indoors while the other family members explore.
The “this is so boring” situation happens no matter where you go. The kids make it very clear that they hate having to walk quietly in museums, and parents cannot stand the never ending fun in the theme parks. Somebody always ends up being bored.
Going on a family trip with a baby is not ideal. Since babies need special attention, like changing the diaper pretty often, and taking naps once in a while, the vacation schedule is created around the baby’s needs. And who needs to go on a vacation and be on a tight schedule.
The younger members of the family want an adventure but are usually restricted by a watchful eye of their parents. All teenage girls think about meeting a cute boy on vacation, and the boys want to go wild and find new and exciting things. However, with parents staying close, it is hard to accomplish.
Taking a family vacation to visit the relatives? Look forward to endless family albums, and stories that are not always comedic or interesting.
Traveling by car or by plane? Getting stuck in traffic or missing a flight and having to wait for another? For the lucky ones, this will be the time to talk to each other and just spend more time as a family. For the rest, it will mean looking at a watch that seems to be stuck, having to endure stupid jokes of younger siblings, and the nagging of the parents.
It is very healthy for a family to spend time together and to see what everyone is up to. However, too much time usually leads to friction which eventually leads to fights. The perfect family vacation might turn out to be a long week or so walking on eggshells. Not pleasant.
Family vacations almost always go hand in hand with singing silly songs in the car. It might be fun for the little ones, but the teenagers will be traumatized for weeks.
A long family vacation means parting from friends and fun. This can make even an idea of a vacation with parents and siblings even more undesirable.
Going on vacation with the family can put you in unexpected places, like smelly hotels and your granny’s house that’s full of cats.
