For the ultimate feel-good entertainment experience, what could be better than Christmas chick flicks? These movies are all great chick flicks that have romance, laughs, and heart. They are also all especially relevant at the Christmas season. So this season indulge in some fantastic entertainment and watch one of these great Christmas chick flicks (even better with some Christmas cookies or chocolates).
“While You Were Sleeping”
This is probably my mother’s favorite film, and it stands up well to being watched over and over (and over), so I’ve watched “While You Were Sleeping” countless times. Sandra Bullock stars as Lucy. She rescues her secret crush after he is pushed onto train tracks, and goes into hospital with him. Due to miscommunication, the man’s family thinks that she is actually his fiancee (he’s in a coma). Of course all of this is happening over the holidays, and as she is accepted she finds the family that she has wanted. Then of course things get even more confusing when she starts to fall for his brother. This is a romance, but it is also a fantastic comedy. This movie really is very funny and has a great ensemble cast. This is a great chick flick at any time, but especially for Christmas.
“Christmas in Connecticut”
We’re going to pretend that the 90’s remake (directed by Arnold Schwarzenegger) never happened, and discuss the classic movie “Christmas in Connecticut”. Released all the way back in 1945, this is still one of my favorite Christmas movies and a fantastic chick flick. The beautiful Barbara Stanwyck stars as Elizabeth Lane, a famous magazine columnist who details her cosy domestic life and shares recipes. However, her writing is a fraud; her real life is nothing like the one she describes in her columns. This becomes a problem when her editor invites a sailor to spend the Christmas with Elizabeth and her family in her home. What follows is a complete comedy and plenty of heartwarming scenes as she tries to recreate the life she has described and gets to know the war hero sent to visit her. There’s plenty of wit, comedy, and romance to fill anyone with Christmas cheer.
When two women’s love lives fall apart, they decide to travel for the holidays and get away from it all. Amanda (Cameron Diaz) leaves LA behind for Iris’s English cottage. During their travels, they both make new friends and new love interests (Jude Law and Jack Black). “The Holiday” is a straightforward romantic comedy that is set during the Christmas season. If you want some simple light-hearted entertainment this holiday season, then “The Holiday” is a good choice. It is easy to watch and will make you want to snuggle with your special someone in front of a fireplace.
