Old eyes sparkle gently as she rocks to and fro;
Lines slightly soften as a smile begins to grow.
Gazing into the past as the sun ventures west;
With hushed reverence she opens her treasure chest.
A heart filled with memories of times come and gone;
One by one she touches upon the treasures she has known.
Each victory and success – reflections with a sigh;
She tenderly recalls the ones that passed her by.
Treasures of each friendship, of happy times and sad;
Of sorrows and of pleasures; of good times and bad;
Carefree joys of childhood, a warm and sheltered home;
The man who her heart, the children of her own.
Moonlight captures softly the single rolling tear;
A lifetime of memories she fondly holds so dear.
A star winks kindly as the past slips into now,
Ending treasured keepsakes behind the wrinkled brow.
A westward breeze blows in the ending of the day;
And with a peaceful sigh she quietly slips away.
