“The Walking Dead’s” second episode was not at all as good as the first episode. This new AMC show looked like it would be a hit with last week’s premiere of “The Walking Dead.” But if episode 2 is any indication of what is to come, it may soon be called, “The Walking Viewer.
The first episode had a fast pace to it, nothing dragged on. It was gory, but you did not have the urge to get rid of the contents of your stomach.
Episode 2 dragged on with the group making its get away from the department store. “The Walking Dead” spent too much time on finding a way out by using the sewer for it to come up a dead end. Then it continued to drag on with the department store fiasco! All the up and down the stairs seem like a waste of air time.
The height of last night’s episode was of course the hacking up of the body to get its “guts.” All the survivors standing around in meat cutting clothes watching as the Sheriff cut the man into a thousand little pieces, was just too graphic and prolonged.
What was with the folks standing around watching? They dressed and came to the party of gore? Only a few participated in the spreading of the human remains on the two going outside. Other than the man who threw up, the expressions on the rest of the faces looked more like they had gas rather than seeing something this horrific.
The first episode had it all. It had fast paced story lines, which made it good viewing for most adults. It had gore, but just enough to satisfy the people tuned in for the blood and guts without the overkill.
Episode 3 may be the deciding factor on how many fans stay with “The Walking Dead” for the duration. The constant shots of zombies is desensitizing, and it is almost as if they are becoming benign. Part of the thrill of the horror flick is to leave something to the imagination, with innuendo’s, or shadows and sounds.
By the second episode the zombie presence was just as impressive as cars in a parking lot. Seeing too much of both starts to make a person say “who cares.”
