If you are a fisherman you need to be aware of the simple ways in which the weather and moon relate to and impact fishing. I have been fishing for more than two decades and in that time have learned how important both the weather and moon are to the behavior of fish and thus to fishing. In this article I will outline some of the simple ways in which these forces of Mother Nature impact fish behavior and thus fishing so that you can catch more fish.
You see both the weather and moon have a dramatic impact on the activity level of fish, and a fishes activity level has an amazing impact on it’s feeding activity. This of course is important to anglers, as anglers are obviously interested in catching fish. In other words, as anglers we want to learn how the weather and moon impact fish behavior so that we can use this information to our advantage to help us catch more fish.
The first thing to understand is that the phase that the moon is in at the time that you are fishing is important. The two phases of the moon that we need to concern ourselves with as anglers are the full and new moon phases. In other words, when the moon is either full or new at night, we want to be on the water fishing during the day. The fish will be more active during these two moon phases, thus they will be feeding more, which means that they will be easier to catch.
The next thing to understand about the weather, moon, and fishing are the simple ways in which the weather impacts fish behavior. The weather and fishing is a bit more complicated than the moon and fishing, but the basics have to do with frontal systems. In other words when a certain frontal systems pass through the area you are fishing or would like to fish, fish will be more or less active, and thus feeding more or less heavily. For example, when a low pressure system passes through the area you want to fish, it is generally viewed as a good thing.
These rules aren’t rocket science and can be learned in an hour or two of study, but the point is that every angler should learn the simple ways in which the weather and moon impact fishing. The goal is to be on the water when both of these forces of Mother Nature are in your favor as an angler. When this happens you will experience a great day fishing and you will start to see that fishing has a lot less to due with “luck” than you ever thought.
