If I do not keep track daily, everything seems to be a blur and I have a hard time remembering everything we did. This seems to be the case with this week as 3 days have gone by and I did not keep track. Keeping track seems to be the hardest thing for me to do sometimes and paperwork has never been my strong suit. However I do remember a few things that have happened over the last few days.
My daughter has taken a large interest in wanting to know the strongest parts of animals and a variety of things. This has included what is the strongest part of an alligator the jaws or the tail. Are the legs or the neck the longest part of a giraffe and what is the strongest part of a wolf. She is always so full of questions and curiosity and approaches life with gusto.
We have played Risk and Uno these past couple of days and I have been spending time reading and going over forum threads on the Radical Unschoolers Network. I love getting inspiration and fresh perspectives from other unschoolers. It is a way for me to grow and expand my thinking and approaches to things. We have also gone and ran some errands together and hubby has spent some time doing odd jobs for our friend who owns a mechanic shop.
We watched the first out of four DVD’s of ROOTS the NEXT GENERATION which is fantastic, I could have sworn I have seen it but apparently I have only ever seen ROOTS and not the second part of this series. It brought up a variety of discussions such as inter-racial relationships and why they kind of still acted like slaves even though they had gained their freedom. We love our historical movies and this series is bringing up all sorts of lively discussions while gaining a better understanding.
We have been going on several nature walks and noticing the start of fall with loads of caterpillars and butterflies around. The cooler weather has been wonderful for being able to get outside and do something active again. Our daughter has also been going online and doing pricing and comparisons to see when we may be able to buy her more Webkinz for her video making. I think I should be able to surprise her soon with a few! She is not shy in showing me the prices and what she wants either! She talks non stop about getting more webkinz for video making now.
Our son made his own hot cereal for breakfast today however I apparently have to be careful what I say and remember he is my strict follow the rules child, funny we never really had rules but he is strict about following rules! Our hot cereal consists of grits, baking coco and sugar to kind of make our own version of coco wheat’s. He asked me how much baking coco to add and I told him half a teaspoon. He took that literally and when he could not get EXACTLY half a teaspoon he came and told me he needed help! I had to laugh as it was not rocket science but to him if he could not get it exactly right then to him it meant it was wrong. I am sure if he goes into the military one day, they are going to love him! I do not have measuring spoons, we just use the teaspoons and tablespoons for eating and cooking with for measurements so I had to assure him it would be fine if it was a little less or more.
We have also been enjoying gathering grasshoppers for our baby fence lizard who our daughter named Sarah. We then sit and watch her hunt and eat the grasshoppers which have been truly amazing. We are really enjoying our time observing this little lizard. She is highly alert, intelligent and an aggressive hunter and we are thrilled to be able to observe this unique creature.
My daughter also sat down and read me a book called it is not Easy Being a Bunny the other night. She is really starting to gain the confidence that comes with learning to read. We all also watched The Colony the other night which is getting really good! They made a water cannon for a weapon which led us to wonder how much pressure a fire hose has so during a commercial a race to the computer was in order. The water cannon shot water at around 110 psi where a fire hose is around 100 to 150 psi, so quite comparable in pressure! I sure would not want that much pressure of water hitting me!
