Primetime television has been slammed this fall. Ratings are falling and we’ve already seen hotly-anticipated shows such as Lonestar and Undercovers get canned. NBC has reorganized their entire schedule for mid-season.
But there are some shows on air you might not have caught -now is the time to tune in.
Audiences originally thought JJ Abram’s Undercovers was going to follow in the late Alias’ s footsteps. We picked the wrong spy show. Nikita is the winner. The show struggles to break out of the mission-of-the-week format but is just serialized enough to keep our attention. Additionally, Shane West and Maggie Q took a few episodes to solidify their characters but Lyndsy Fonseca has shined as Alex. She is reportedly being considered for the role of Katniss in the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games.
Great Episodes: “Kill Jill” and “Resistance”
Raising Hope (FOX)
The most promising new comedy this season centers on a backwater family as they welcome an unexpected baby into their lives. The premise and the character’s are out there but showrunner Greg Garcia is in familiar territory. He created another wacky hit-My Name is Earl. If that doesn’t hook you, tune in for Martha Plimpton and Shannon Woodward–two great and underrated TV actresses.
Great Episodes: “Dead Tooth” and “The Sniffles”
Hawaii Five-O (CBS)
With a Charlie’s Angels remake on the horizon, I was not anticipating Hawaii Five-O. We have lots of cop shows already the last thing we need is a remake of a cop show. But CBS has the procedural format down and makes this work. Hawaii Five-O is fun and full of aloha. If the main cast doesn’t pull you in, definitely check it out for the weekly guest stars. James Marsters has great turn as the pilot’s main antagonist.
