The 99ers couldn’t be happier that the midterm elections are completed. They want to get back to work. The 99ers and the millions of other unemployed American’s want Congress to get back to work. Back to work on generating legislation to create a Tier V. Back to work to pass job creation legislation. Back to tending to the nation’s business instead of their re-election. There are no signs whatsoever that the economy is going to improve all on its own. Government action is required to turn the economy around and create the millions of jobs needed to get our unemployed back to work. Private industry is sitting on its hands. The wait needs to be over.
Just days after the completion of the midterms, the airwaves are crowded with all of the chest-pounding by the winners and the posturing by the losers about the tenor of how things are going to be run in the future. Nobody seems to get it. The Republicans were not handed a mandate in 2010 anymore than the Democrat’s were handed one in 2008. What the nation as a whole stated through the midterm elections was that most in Congress were simply not listening; it’s the economy stupid! The party that gets its arms around how to fix the economy and stop the suffering of millions of unemployed, especially the 99ers that have been out of any unemployment benefits for months on end, will win the hearts and votes of the people in 2012. All they need to do is be all economy, all the time, until the business climate has improved enough to go back on autopilot.
Yes, the need today is that someone is going to have to pilot the economic plane for a while to taxi it down the runway and get it airborne and up to a safe cruising altitude. With the midterms behind us the 99ers, and other’s serious about the state of unemployment in our country today, will rejuvenate their efforts to contact Senator’s that are co-sponsors of the Americans Want to Work Act (S.3706) to get this bill pushed out of the Finance Committee and onto the Senate floor for consideration. In light of the Republican’s midterm performance, many will be asking those in the Senate and the House to look for ways to at least partially fund, or fully fund, this critical piece of legislation so it can be passed by both the House and the Senate.
99ers everywhere are taking a sight of relief that the midterms are behind us, for it means that the Congress can refocus on what matters most – the nation’s business. That business, as the polls indicate, places fixing the economy as the #1 issue. It is time for Congress to lick their wounds, be done patting themselves on the back, or whatever other wasted effort they are currently doing today and roll up their sleeves and get back to work. A deserving nation deserves their attention starting now!
