High school is a very busy time a student’s career. You have a lot of classes, some high-stakes standardized tests like the SAT, college decisions to make, and extracurriculars to attend. Somewhere, you also have to fit your friends and time for sleep into that schedule. It can be easy to get overwhelmed.
Here are some tips for high schoolers to better manage their time so you can have a great high school experience without all the stress and an overbooked schedule.
The first thing any high school student should do is get a calendar. Many high schools give their students calendars at the beginning of the year, but you can also buy one for cheap, or use an online calendar, such as Google Calendar.
By using a calendar, high school students can make sure they don’t forget about important homework assignments that are due, tests, and other important dates.
Much of the stress of high school is finding out about things at the last minute and scrambling before the deadline. You can avoid much of this stress and drama by getting into the habit of using a calendar to plan out your schedule and manage your time.
Schedule in blocks of time for homework when you know you’ll need it. That way, it’s already in your schedule and you are less likely to forget about it later on when something else comes up.
High schoolers can also better manage their time by prioritizing and deciding what things on their schedule are really important. Think about your goals. Where do you want to go to college? What do you want to do after school? Where do you want to be in five or ten years?
Your answers to these questions should help you determine what activities you put at the highest priority. Remember, time is limited, and there’s never enough time to do everything we want to do. So, you have to make choices and decide what you want to devote your time to.
Finally, remember to enjoy your high school experience and do the things you really want to do. You only get one chance to go to high school, and many people look back on those four years with fond memories.
Think about what memories you’d like to look back on, think about what you’d like to accomplish in the future. You’re already off to a great high school career!
