If you are planning a homeschooling trip like most you want things to run as smooth as possible. The one thing that you don’t want is to arrive at your destination only to find out you needed to pre-register. Or perhaps the price is more than what you originally thought. Below you will find several ideas, and suggestions on how you can ensure that your homeschooling field trip runs smoothly. Since many different locations hold special homeschooling events it is important to get all if the information verified.
Check your information
Taking the time to verify the information before you even plan your trip is really the best idea. Most locations like museums, and zoos have websites where you can verify this information. Many also have telephone numbers that will allow you to call for additional information. This really makes it a lot easier when you are trying to organize, and plan out your day. I have found it is always better to speak with a live person so that you can ask questions instead of a recording. Be sure to write down any information that you are given, and keep it handy so that you will be able to find it later. You will also want to take the time to verify the date, and the price of the event.
Remember that you have children with you so making sure that they will be able to eat on schedule is also very important. When you call the location find out what the rules are for lunch. Most places that are children friendly will allow you to bring along a bag lunch. This will help you to save money, and each kid will be able to eat something that they like. Make sure that each child has their own lunch bag. I have found it easier to have one of the adults carry a larger bag that will hold all of the smaller lunch bags. This way all of the kids will be able to walk around, and explore the area without having to worry about carrying their lunch bag.
Take along friends to help
Even if you are only going to be taking a few kids it is still a good idea to have one additional adult with you. This way if one child has to use the restroom you do not have to make the entire group gets up to leave. Instead you can allow one of the parents to take the child to the rest room and the rest can stay and enjoy the activity. Plus it always pays to have helped when you are out and about with a group of kids
Give it a time limit
It is a good idea to give any outing with the kids a time limit. Usually kids can only last for a certain period of time anyway. Usually three hours for younger children and four hours for older children works well. Of course you know your children better than anyone so set the time limit that you feel will work best.
