Holiday entertaining can be fun, but it also means a lot of work and extra planning while still trying to keep up with all of the other demands on our time. The holiday season is sometimes the busiest time of the year for people and yet we feel that we must entertain friends and family alike. There is a way to throw a fabulous, entertaining evening and keep things simple. With the right plan, you can plan a great party and keep it simple for you.
The first thing to do is to simplify. Throwing a holiday party doesn’t need to break the bank or your soul. It doesn’t have to be so stressful that you can’t enjoy any of the planning or party. Try purchasing a main dish that is precooked or make the main dish and buy the side dishes already prepared in order to simplify the work. Many restaurants will allow you to purchase side dishes. This could be a great time saver.
Second is to delegate. Delegate duties to others who are willing to help out are a plan for finding those who will help take the load off of you. Creating a menu that will be elegant and yet simple enough that others can help with the food or cost is always one way to easy up the stress of a huge party with fancy foods that no one else can help with.
Go green is your third tip. If you spend a little time getting the fine china ready, it will eliminate the need to shop for paper products and it will help to save the environment. Adding a nice touch like cloth napkins is a plus too and have them cleaned by someone else to help eliminate that work on you too.
Cleaning is a great tip, but can also be a real time consumer. I would suggest bringing in a friend or a maid service to help you with this aspect of the entertaining. Making the best of a hard chore is what may be easiest to focus on.
Manage the party plans wisely. You should personally greet each guest to your party and make sure to introduce them to others. Possibly having a host to do this could be your best bet. Make sure that someone is in charge of decorating the table and making sure that all things needed are there. This does not have to be you, but be sure it is someone who knows what the plans are.
Decorating may be the most time consuming but find items that will go throughout the season from Christmas to New Years. Silver and green or red and gold are elegant looks to any room and add to the holiday spirit that you are wanting to project. Fresh flowers, holly boughs, cinnamon sticks, and glittery pears are great items to add to the décor. Apples and cinnamon are great scents to bring into a home for the holiday season.
Whatever you do with the entertaining plans and however you get through the plans, enjoy the season and make the most of the parties, but do not allow them to take over all of your time and effort and make your holidays full of stress. Holidays need to be as stress free as possible.
