A salon visit should be a pleasant experience. There is no need to stress out. Check out the salon first and get a sense of the atmosphere before making an appointment. If you sense tension amongst the stylists and customers you might end up regretting having your hair done there. So always scope out the place first.
Before you make your appointment check out what types of styles you would like to have. Some web sites offer a virtual salon where you can upload a picture of yourself and try on all types of hairstyles on your photo. Check out magazines for celebrities that have a hair style you might like to try.
Talk to the stylist beforehand. Listen to their advice and ask to see some of their clients after they are finished with their hair. If you like what you see and get a great vibe make the appointment. Listen to your stylist. They are trained at customizing a hair cut that will look great on you. They will know how to handle the best cut for your hair. This doesn’t mean you have to totally listen to them. Explain what you want and then compromise.
So you have your hair trimmed, colored, etc. It is time for styling. Ask the stylist to go slow and explain step-by-step exactly how to achieve the look so you will be able to recreate the same style at home. It might take you a little time to get used to it but you will eventually get the hang of recreating the style.
Ask the stylist which hair care products will work best for your hair. They will suggest the products they have available in the salon. This doesn’t mean you have to purchase these because most of them are expensive. You can find cheaper alternatives in mass merchandise stores.
Don’t forget to ask your stylist about any hair concerns that you have, like frizz, lack of bounce, etc.
Always tip each individual that works on your hair. Don’t be extravagant but do leave a nice amount for each person. Good stylists will remember that and be very helpful at your next appointment.
