With Paris Hilton’s latest arrest, and Lindsay Lohan’s ongoing struggles, I look at these ladies and wonder why they can’t just grow the hell up? Paris is almost 30 years old, and she still parties like she’s a teenager. Lindsay was once a role model for young girls, and now she’s just another has-been actress with a few drunken driving charges under her belt. Why do these adult women get off so easily?
When Paris Hilton previously spent time in jail, she was quoted afterward as saying that the experience changed her life. That appears not to be the case, as last Friday marked her second drug related arrest this summer. Now she’s said to be charged with felony drug possession, and could spend up to four years in prison.
The excuses just keep coming too. Paris said that she thought the cocaine in her purse was GUM! What kind of gum can you buy in Las Vegas that can also pass as cocaine? And her “iron clad” defense is that the purse couldn’t possibly be hers, because it’s not a designer label; she just borrowed it from a friend because it matched her outfit. And her story reportedly keeps changing as well; first she claims she never saw the drugs, and then she says she thought it was gum. This kind of behavior is expected from an heiress in her late teens and early twenties, when Daddy’s money and a self indulgent attitude can get you out of any situation you find yourself in. But when you’re 30 years old, it’s time to grow up and take responsibility for yourself.
I used to think that Lindsay Lohan was the poster child of what was wrong with the entertainment business, but I think its people like Paris Hilton. Sure, Lindsay has lots of issues to deal with, and she’s made lots of excuses for them. But I think that she is at least trying to get her life together. Paris Hilton’s latest arrest just shows the world that she is never going to grow up and take responsibility for her life. Its women like her that gives all other women a bad name. She is still just a self indulgent brat who thinks that good looks, no talent for anything but spending Daddy’s money and getting arrested can get her through life. Luckily, the Los Angeles legal system doesn’t have to deal with this cocaine charge, so there’s a good chance that she could get a legitimate prison sentence (1-4 years), not the joke of a jail sentence she served in 2004. It will be interesting to see what more excuses she can come up with as her trial nears.
