I’ve loved books from a very young age, and even today I still love reading some of the books from my childhood. Here is a list of my top ten favorite children’s books.
10. The Giving Tree- By Shel Silverstein
I love this book so much, it has such a great message and it is a really cute story. I remember having this read to me in elementary school by the school librarian. I think every child should hear this story at least once.
9. Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
This book is more suitable for younger children, but it is the perfect, quintessential bedtime story. I don’t have any kids of my own, but this story is part of my husband’s son’s bedtime routine every night, it is one of his favorite stories.
8. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
My friend and I were obsessed with Eric Carle when we were in elementary school. Whenever we got the chance we would go to library and read books by him. The Very Hungry Caterpillar was our absolute favorite book that he wrote. The story is cute and the illustrations are amazing.
7. The Adventures of A.G. Bear by Cynthia Gurin
This story is a little less well known, but it is so great. It chronicles the adventures of Amanda Grey and her three friends Mrs. Duck, Isadora Le Chat, and A.G. Bear. If you’d like to read it here is a link to the story: http://www.the-office.com/bedtime-story/agbeartales.htm.
6. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.
This is a cute and educational story. Its entertaining and it can help kids learn their ABCs.
5. The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister
The illustrations in this book are incredible and I was fascinated by this book from the first time I saw it. It has a good moral to it as well which is always a plus.
4. If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff
This is a story about a mouse wanting a cookie and because he got the cookie he wants all sorts of stuff as well. A lot of silly events occur in this story and it’s just really cute and amusing.
3. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
When I was in elementary school my school put on a play of this book and I’ve loved it ever since. Every parent should read this to their child at least once, probably more because once your kid hears it once I’m sure they will ask to have it read to them over and over again.
2. The Fire Cat by Esther Holden Averill
My grandma used to read this book to me when I was younger all the time. It is such an adorable story. If you love cats or even if you don’t, I think you and your kids will love this story.
1. Anything by Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss has so many amazing books its impossible to pick just one for the list. His books are great for children because they are crazy and unpredictable which means they easily keep children’s attention.
