Finding a kid friendly restaurant that also caters to adults can be difficult. Luckily, in Westminster, Colorado there are a few restaurants that not only have a kid-friendly menu and environment, but an adult friendly fare as well.
BJ’s Restaurant and Brew House
Located off Highway 36 and Church Ranch Road in the Walnut Creek Shopping Center, you will find a gem of a restaurant. After a quick shopping trip at the Target nearby, my husband and I decided that we wanted to go out to eat. We had our two younger children with us and knew that we needed a place that they couldn’t wreak too much havoc in. We stumbled onto BJ’s Restaurant and Brew House and decided to give it a try. We walked into the restaurant and were greeted by friendly a hostess who also bent down to ask the children if they would some crayons to color with. We noticed a large bar area with many flat screen televisions on the wall broadcasting different sporting events. We were led to the other side of the restaurant and seated in a large circular booth which was perfect for one parent on each side and keeping the kids on the inside. The children’s menu was full of kid friendly foods such as pizza, macaroni and cheese, and even a delicious cookie sundae for dessert. The kid friendly menu items were also reasonably priced. The adult menu had a lot of different choices. Everything from fancy chicken and pasta dishes to large deep dish pizzas. The service was friendly and our waitress not acknowledged the children, but talked directly to them as well. Every since that experience, BJ’s Brewery in Westminster, Colorado has become our favorite restaurant and we don’t even need to hire a babysitter for the evening.
Wishbone Family Restaurant
Wishbone is located a few blocks north of 92nd on Federal in the same spot the family owned restaurant opened in 196. Specializing in fried chicken and other southern favorites, this restaurant is often busy and has a large following. There is a lot of local history plastered on the walls along with numerous kitschy items to bring a smile to your face. My kids love to look around at all the different things on the wall and we always see something new every time we dine there. The kid friendly menu includes the famous fried chicken as well as chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, and a kid friendly dessert. All plates are served with large, buttery pieces of Texas toast and honey and most plates come with a small container of gravy.
Gunther Toody’s Diner
Although this restaurant is not in Westminster, it is located just west of I25 on 104th in the Northglenn Market Place. Gunther Toody’s Diner is a blast from the past. The waitresses are dressed in 1950’s diner dresses and music from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s blares from the jukebox. With crane games, menus to color on, and enough paraphernalia on the walls to entertain a person for days, this restaurant is perfect for children. There is even a real motorcycle propped up on a ledge. I do suggest going at a time where the diner isn’t so busy because my family has been the victim of cold food on a more crowded night. The kids menu offers everything from hamburgers to spaghetti and the lunch and dinner plates come with a free small sundae. Mom and dad have a large choice of different hamburgers, salads, and traditional diner platters including pot roast. Be sure to add a 10 ounce milkshake or malt to your dinner to add to the experience. They are the perfect size for sharing.
