Gamescom, the European video game trade show just concluded. For those who aren’t familiar with it, it can be considered the European equivalent to North America’s E3. Overall, the announcements from this year’s Gamescom were disappointing, especially in comparison to last year’s event. The 2009 Gamescom had the unveiling of the PS3 Slim and the announcement of Fable III. However, there weren’t any announcements of that caliber this year. The following were the five biggest announcements at Gamescom 2010.
5) Resistance 3 Announced
Although Resistance 3 was leaked some time ago, an official announcement is never a bad thing. It’s currently scheduled for release next year. A pretty interesting live action teaser trailer was released with this announcement.
4) More Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Characters Revealed
Not that these character releases are all that surprising, but it’s always fun to see new characters announced for the game. Capcom announced that Dormammu and Viewtiful Joe will be in the game as well.
3) Dragon Age: Origins 2 Dated
The follow up hit was finally dated for March 2011 release. A pretty cool trailer was also released for the game at Gamescom.
2) Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One Announced
The next Ratchet & Clank game was announced for the PS3. It includes 4-player online co-op as you can play as Ratchet, Clank, Qwark and Dr. Nefarious. It’s currently dated for release in Fall 2011.
1) Mass Effect 2 on PS3
The hit Bioware and Electronic Arts game Mass Effect 2, a game that is amongst the best reviewed games of all time, will no longer be an Xbox 360 exclusive. It’ll arrive in January 2011 for PS3. This should get both PS3 and Xbox 360 fanboys in a tizzy. It is interesting to note that this is specific to Mass Effect 2, the original Mass Effect is still a Xbox 360 exclusive.
Ryu in Tekken x Street Fighter Revealed
Presentation Video (1Up)
After the incredible announcement of Street Fighter x Tekken at Comic-Con, including a trailer and demo, video game fans were hoping for a similar Tekken x Street Fighter showing at Gamescom. Unfortunately, the Tekken team is behind the Street Fighter team in the development of their game, and only a handful of screen shots of Ryu models were available instead.
