Do your palms get sweaty when you think about what you’re going to get your Mom for her birthday. You want to give her the world but aside from being impossible, time is running out. Besides, you’re just a kid! Well, I have good news; Mom doesn’t want the world. In fact she doesn’t even want you to spend more than 1 weeks allowance on her birthday gift. How do I know this? Because, I am a Mom. So, no matter how young you are, I have the perfect gift to fit your age, and your budget.
Ages 0-4: Hand-print/Footprint Plate – $30
If you are reading this you probably are not between the ages of 0-4, in fact you are probably Dad. If you are Dad, you are already one step ahead of the game just by reading this article. Hand-print and Footprint Art is a perfect gift for this age. This doesn’t give you permission to just trace your baby’s hand on a piece of construction paper. Put a little extra effort into it. Find a local pottery or clay shop and make something special for Mom. I recommend stamping your child’s prints on a large plate. You can get creative and embellish the print with some of your own artwork and a “Happy Birthday” message. You can even pay the creative professionals to make something precious from your munchkins prints. Here are some amazing examples of what you can try to create. Mom can show off her baby’s masterpiece on a mantle, hang it on a wall, or display it in a glass cabinet for everyone to see. This can all be done for about $30.
Ages 4-7: Garden Stone – $20
This is also a good age for do-it-yourself birthday gifts that Mom is sure to love. I recommend a Garden Stone. Garden Stones are a beautiful addition to anyone’s garden and very easy to make. You can buy a kit at any craft store for about $20. Be thoughtful when making the stone for Mom. Use her birthstone, or decorate it with something that she really loves. You don’t have to write a “Happy Birthday” message on the stone, instead, be sure to date the stone with Mom’s birthday and the year. It will always remind Mom of this very special time in her life, and in yours.
Ages 7-11: Demdaco, Willow Tree Figurine – $25
Okay kiddos, it’s time to start saving your pennies. You are now old enough and responsible enough to help with chores around the house. If Mom and Dad pay you for it, great! If they don’t just ask them what you can do to earn a few bucks. All you’ll need is about $25. If you don’t have enough time to earn this kind of money, I’m sure Dad will give you an advance, (he’ll explain what that means.) Just tell him it’s for a Demdaco Willow Tree Figurine. You will love giving Mom this gift, almost as much as she will love receiving it. The figurines can be purchased at any Hallmark store. They are truly the perfect birthday gift for the sentimental mother who adores her family more than anything in the world. Just be sure and keep a box of Kleenex nearby. These sweet figurines always make me cry.
Ages 11-15: Pandora Charm Bracelet – $25 to $65
Same rule applies to you guys. Try to pick up a few extra chores around the house to earn some extra cash for Mom’s birthday gift. Your goal is about $65. I know, it’s a lot of money for someone your age, but It will so be worth it when Mom opens up her Pandora Charm Bracelet. Bracelets start at $40, and one silver charm will set you back about $25. If you can’t raise that kind of money by Mom’s birthday, maybe you could have Dad buy the bracelet and you could buy the charm. This is a perfect birthday gift for Mom because she can grow her collection of Pandora charms with every birthday, holiday and special occasion.
Ages 16-18: Your Time – Free
You are now old enough to earn your own money outside of the house, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend it all on Mom’s birthday gift. When Mom says, “I don’t want you spending all of your money on me”, she really means it. What Mom does want from you is Text-free, computer-free, uninterrupted, no rolling-of-the-eyes, quality time. Put down your cell phone for a second, step away from the computer (I promise you won’t die, or miss out on the biggest scandal in the history of high school if you take a break from technology) and just hang out with Mom. Buy her a really nice card and maybe even flowers and talk to her, laugh with her and don’t forget to hug her and tell her how grateful you are that she was born on this very special day.
