However, South Padre Island is probably one of the most entertaining “small towns” you will ever find. There is plenty in the area to do like the beach,fishing, water sports, shopping, golf, and a variety of restaurants. Not to mention the grand kids will love to visit with a variety of activities for them. There is even a beach side water park located right on the island.
Finally, South Padre Island is just over an hour away from the Mexican border. While it is not always advisable for citizens to cross the border during some high level alert, many of the Mexican border towns are relatively safe and can be a haven for those seeking cheaper prescription medications (and a variety of other goods) than what can be obtained in the US.
