My husband loves pizza. If you let him, he would eat it every day of the week. He says it is because with his changed taste buds, pizza is the one thing he can still taste.
Obviously, living on a fixed income, we can’t afford to order pizza every night. Consequently, we have tried just about every pizza recipe and frozen pizza on the market today. Of the frozen variety, my husband particularly likes Totino’s. I like it too. It is tasty and inexpensive.
Recently, we opted to try Totino’s Combination Party Pizza with original crisp crust. It contains chicken and pork sausage and pepperoni. The seasoning is made with beef, chicken and pork.
Totino’s Party Pizza comes in a 10.7-oz size and can be found in the freezer section of your favorite grocery mart. Ingredients include enriched flour, mozzarella cheese substitute, pre-cooked pizza topping, rehydrated pasteurized processes cheese, sugar, tomato puree and water.
The flour is enriched with ferrous sulfate, folic acid, niacin, riboflavin and thiamin. Tomato puree includes caramel color, chicken, dextrose, maltodextrin, pork, salt, spice, soy flour and protein concentrate, sodium phosphate and vegetable protein. It is blended with canola and soybean oil.
The topping includes beef, BHA and BHT, chicken, citric acid, dextrose, flour, garlic powder, lactic acid, miscellaneous spices, oleoresin of paprika, pepperoni, pork, sodium ascorbate and sodium nitrate. The processed cheese includes cheese cultures, enzymes, nonfat milk, salt, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin B12, sodium aluminum phosphate, sodium citrate, sugar and water.
Other ingredients include magnesium oxide, palm and rennet casein, potassium chloride, potassium sorbate, potato starch, sodium aluminum phosphate, sodium citrate, titanium dioxide, wheat gluten and zinc oxide. It also contains asorbic acid, beet powder, dry yeast, defatted soy flour, malic acid, monocalcium phosphate, modified corn starch, natural flavors, rehydrated enzyme modified cheese, sodium bicarbonate, sorbitan monstearate, and xanthan gum.
There are 2 servings in each 10.7-oz pizza. One serving equals 370 calories; 180 of which are fat related.
There are 20 grams of fat inside each serving. Six grams comes from saturated fat and 4 grams comes from trans fat.
There are 35 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of sugar, 830 micrograms of sodium and 10 micrograms of cholesterol per serving. Therefore, individuals watching their intake of those items may wish to avoid this product.
On the flip side, one serving of Totino’s Combination Party Pizza contains 12 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber. It also includes 15% of the daily-recommended amount of calcium, 10% of the needed iron and 8% of the required vitamin A.
While some people do microwave Totino’s Combination Party Pizza, it is actually made for the oven. Preheat the oven to 450-degree Fahrenheit before putting the pizza inside. Place the pizza directly on to the oven rack, a crisper sheet or pizza pan. Bake for approximately 15 minutes or until browned the way you like it.
It is important to cook frozen pizza thoroughly in order to avoid the spread of any type of food born illness.
Keep the pizza frozen right up to the minute it is to be prepared. This will also help avoid spreading food-related illnesses.
Here is my summary review:
Taste: 4 stars. Totino’s Combination Party Pizza is frozen pizza. It is never going to taste like something fresh. However, as far as frozen pizzas go, this one is as good as any other.
Freshness: 5 stars. If you follow the directions and keep the product frozen until you are ready to fix it, it will remain remarkably fresh (for frozen pizza, that is).
Nutrition: 3 stars. There is no denying that pizza isn’t the best food in the world. It is tasty and fun, but that is about as good as it gets. It is high in carbohydrate, fat, and cholesterol. There is also more than a little bit of sugar thrown into the mix. On the other hand, Totino’s Combination Party Pizza is vitamin enriched and that is something.
Reputation: 5 stars. Totino’s enjoys a good reputation because they have earned it. They are constantly striving to make their products better, to improve nutrition and to come up with new ideas.
Packaging: 5 stars. Totino’s Combination Party Pizza comes in a bright red box with the red Totino’s logo across the type. The packaging also spells out “party pizza,” the type of crust and the style (in this instance, combination). A picture of the pizza is also posted on the front and it is a pretty accurate reputation of what the pizza actually looks like. With is blue, orange, yellow, black and white trim, Totino’s Party Pizza is easy to locate in the grocer’s frozen food section.
Ease of storage: 5 stars. The box measures 9″ by 9″ by 1 ¼”. It should fit inside most freezers with ease.
Availability: 5 stars. Totino’s Combination Party Pizza should be found anywhere Totino’s products are sold, which is most major supermarkets and discount department stores as well as some drug and convenience stores.
Price: 5 stars. The price is reasonable. My husband paid a little over $1 for it, on sale at the commissary.
Product purchase probability: 5 stars. I have to keep this stocked in my freezer in order to keep a happy husband.
Final rating: 4.7 stars. It makes a good, quick meal.
